Yes! Around 28 years after this album was released, Rush have never been able to excel the half-dozen songs found on this album, at least in my eyes. The half-dozen songs ensconced within this CD personally rank as classics of the genre, with the trio's musical skills being at their peak. It essentially serves as a conduit between the excellent, but ridiculously overblown Hemispheres and the album that really marked their overture towards the mainstream, the seminal Moving Pictures. Without making a detailed track-by-track analysis, I'll safely say that The Spirit of Radio and Freewill are deserved stalwarts of the classic-rock world. a wonderful album that is as captivating now as it was twenty years ago. tracy took 5 years to write the eleven tracks on this album and the depth of emotion and artistic beauty she created make for a timeless album can only be put into the category of classic.

Containing none of their most famous hits, 'Katy Lied' is nevertheless Steely Dan's most gorgeous collection of songs. There is perhaps less invention and more commercialism in the music, but this is deceptive, for the invention is in the writing. 'Bad Sneakers' features attention-grabbing twists in both music and lyrics, as does the lovely 'Doctor Wu', though, like many of the band's songs, its meaning is elusive. The opening image of suicide on the strident 'Black Friday,' by contrast, is stark. 'Everyone's Gone To The Movies' shows them in buoyant mood. A gorgeous album when it first appeared now enhanced with bonus tracks. This is the Kinks at their most thoughtful.

It really doesn't matter to me whether this album is only 1% live; the fact is that Visconti finally managed to capture the energy of Thin Lizzy on tape. This is by far the best Lizzy album, and knocks every studio effort into a cocked hat. Much as I like albums like "Johnny The Fox", if you play this one afterwards, you will know what I mean - there are no better versions of these songs anywhere else. Yes, the original vinyl double LP was lovingly packaged with great photos and a "side" dedicated to each member of the band, and the main shame is that nobody has seen fit to remaster Live And Dangerous and give it the packaging it truly deserves (in the same way that Skynyrd's "One From The Road" has). This was the first ever Deep Purple album that I heard, it was loaned to me on cassette which I played on a pretty crappy portable mono cassette player and even then it rocked. I've since bought around 50 LPs & CDs so who said home taping was killing music? This CD version is a real steal at the price because not only does it have the full concert it also has the encores. OK so it wasn't all recorded from one concert but the best bits from 3 different ones, but if you listen to the Live in Japan 3 CD set you will realise what a difficult job they had in picking the best performances. The performances here really are outstanding with the whole band playing as well as they ever did. If you only ever buy one Deep Purple CD this should be it.

It's funny that when you love and know a certain piece of music so well you don't often play it. Such is the case with Camel's "Snow Goose", which I had on LP many years ago (!) but which I only recently added to my CD collection. I'm glad I did. The sound quality on this remastered CD is first-class and the music sounds as beautiful as ever. All instrumental of course, apart from some superb vocalisations on a couple of the sections. This was a seminal album: Camel were on top form and allowed the music to speak for itself. It's not played at a fast tempo, allowing the listener to become drawn by the sumptuous, ever-changing melodic lines, the wonderfuly chosen keyboard sounds, the wistful flute and languid guitar lines. By no means all the greatest early songs, this compilation does include her hits and well-known album tracks from the 1960s and early 1970s. It focuses on the later Vanguard years when she moved into pop and rock. Four Dylan tracks are included plus her greatest commercial success, The Band's The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, a lilting melodious song about the civil war, her big hit from 1971. Farewell Angelina from the album of the same name is another gem, and then there's the civil rights anthem We Shall Overcome. Other highlights include The Dangling Conversation (penned by Paul Simon), the bitter Love Is Just A Four Letter Word and the stirring There But For Fortune. So Roger Waters threw the toys out of the pram and spat out his dummy. Who the hell cares? He went on to have a successful solo career and jolly good luck to him. But to then say, oh well Pink Floyd is no longer in existence and this is a Gilmour solo album, under the name of Pink Floyd, is frankly infantile. This is David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Rick Wright and they are as much the essence of Pink Floyd as Roger Waters ever was. Oh and by the way if Roger Waters was so damn sure that Floyd could not exist without him, why did he take such trouble to exclude Rick Wright and draw up legal papers preventing him from ever rejoining the group?
