This one took quite a few listenings before I began to realise the strength of some of the lyrics and the emotional power of just about every track. Some don't like the strong presence of female vocals - personally I love this especially on 'Alexandra Leaving' and 'Here it is'. I love this album and think others who know Cohen's work will too - and hopefully, many others who don't know his work will hereby get to know it.

I bought this album on the strength of Dream Catch Me, something I don't usually do without hearing more, but a decision I certainly don't regret in this case. Vocally, he has hints of Jack Johnson and Adam Levine, and delivers each song with soul, energy and enthusiasm. There are no bad, weak or filler tracks on this album, which sounds polished but still raw. Despite the similarities I mentioned earlier, Faulkner still sounds totally unique and has a lot of talent. I enjoy this album, which manages to relax me when I need relaxation, as well as stimulate me when I need an energy boost. One of the best debut albums in recent years.

I notice one of the tags for this album is 'music'. Yeah! Coldplay, whadda they sound like? well, sort of... music, really. Whoo! I got to get me some of that! Yes, it's the sonic equivalent of watching paint dry... I'm sorry. I don't HATE this stuff. But that's the point... it's so WET. When did people like this get to masquerade as rock musicians? It's bad for you. Your children will grow up thinking this is what a rock band sounds like. Zeppelin who? no, I wanna listen to the guys who go "waaa.. waa... I'm sad and feeble..." When there's the likes of Gutter Twins, Aquila, Rufus Wainwright and The Veils out there barely making a dent, you should not be spending your money and valuable time on this.

Great original under-rated band and song-writer, buy this if you're quite new to their unique sound and then splash out on the individual fantastic CDs, then try the Travelling Wilburys!

That cover pic: the radiance in those eyes, and that smile! Wow, Joan: so glad to have you back, dear friend. The flowers on the cd, the warm heart of a kindred spirit, that never-aging how-could-one-forget soprano. The deep humanity and universality, too. By the time the first spin of this cd was through, a 6 or 7 lyric file had been compiled. Was wondering what to buy recently when I saw a review of this album and an interview with the singer in a sunday magazine.Turns out that this is a brilliant album,and has traces of blues,gospel,pop,country,and a touch of the brilliant Karen Carpenter about it. Stand-out tracks for me include the intense deep gospel of Nobody's Fault But Mine and One Cloud,and the lighter yet still uplifting pop of So Sublime and i Shall Be Released. A varied collection then in some ways,yet with a pleasing undercurrent of blues running throughout the whole album to string it all together and give it a sense of identity. Really uplifting and at times extremely powerful! For once the hype may be justified!

This has to be the worst album i have ever heard . The only good track is black and gold. Save your money and just buy the single because the rest is rubbish

I saw the film first and bought myself this cd afterwards. I love every song on it. If it's the music from the film that you want it's all on here. I'd highly recommend this cd.

I was looking for somewhere to start to begin my Fleetwood Mac education having vague childhood memories of it from the influence of my parents, and I couldn't have picked a better place to start! This is a wonderful compliation which covers different eras of Fleetwood Mac's musical development, and with that comes some very different sounds to their music. I love it more everytime I listen to it!!

this CD is really just another example of the music companies trying to fleece us the poor consumer. whilst the music of Billy Joel is superb in any format this best of is just a rehash of his Essential collection. unless you have a burning desire to own Scenes from an Italian Resteraunt and Only the Good Die young then i would seriously recommend 'The Essential Billy Joel' 36 tracks in all and 16 of them which you get on this album.
