This is a great album to play in the car to de-stress those rush hour journeys. Also to play in the background when friends come over. The astounding trumpet playing will make you smile; it is happy, upbeat, and above all, very cool.

I am a big jazz fan, and my favourite jazz style is Swing. It has such an upbeat, dancy feel to it that can brighten up even the dullest day. 'Swing' is a fine compilation of classic songs from the golden era of swing. It contains the definative versions of some great songs (eg 'Beyond the sea', Bobby Darin; 'Satin Doll' Duke Ellington; 'Very thought of you', Billie Holiday) and some lesser known tunes. All the recordings on this album are good and clear. On some compilation CD's the recordings are live or have poor quality sound, but that is not the case on 'Swing'. This album is the quintessential dinner jazz album. Forget all those lame Best of Jazz compilations. Jobim's original Bossa Nova tracks are the only option for the smoothest, most elegant and sensual songs that everyone in the room can kick back to.

This album, originally issued on vinyl in 1979, is a compilation of tracks taken from James Last's numerous "Non-Stop Dancing Party" and "Beach Party" records, mostly from the 70s, but a sprinkling are from earlier years. While the title was technically impossible the album did provide 75 minutes' worth of happy singalong music for an old fashioned party. The major snag with it all, only too obvious now in the cold light of 21st century CD hifi quality, was and is that the tracks were very crudely edited together. This, together with the fact that no two consecutive tracks came from the same source recording, means that the album has a rather disjointed sound to it. If the house ever burned down, this would be the one thing that I would rush in to save. Although some of these recordings are nearly 70 years old, the music is timeless. Without doubt, these recordings represent not only the apogee of the Count's recordings but the whole Swing Era. Featuring such legends as Lester Young, Buck Clayton, Sweets Edison and the famous "All American " rythmn section of Basie / Page / Greene / Jones, it is safe to say that there is not a duff track on this 4 CD box set. In addition, there are plenty of recordings by the great Jimmy Rushing - check out "Harvard Blue." What can surely be better than this track ? I'm 17 years of age, i'm into punk rock music, heavy/thrash metal music and I play electric guitar. So can someone please explain to me why I love this album sooooo much. Seriously, I never get bored of listening to the Benny Goodman Story. From start to finish all his best hits are crammed in for a night in, sitting down and relaxing and watching the t.v with the mute button on. My favourites are "And The Angels Sing", "One O'clock jump", "China boy", "Moonglow". Well let me face facts there all amazing tracks from the swing band general himself.
