There is little to say about this album which hasn't already been said by my fellows here, other than to say that having to select tracks for a 'Best Of Free' album must have been the most difficult job in the world; it'd have been easier just to release a box set of their whole back catalogue!
Herewith, a taster, you will need more...

Unlike the other reviewers I would say that if you want to have a collection that shows you can tell the difference between inspiration and the run-of-the mill then you should have this original release (at least on a major label) and if you must have the rest for purposes of comparison then it is best kept to one side. The rest does not demonstrate anything except the difference, and also that the basic blues can be pretty boring even when played by it's foremost artist. I bought this on vinyl in 1968 and can still remember how disappointed I was a year or so later when I got vol.2. There was a lot more of the same but without the intensity. Whoever compiled this first album did a very good job and got it right every time.
The reason is simply that there ... Read More:

i have always loved gary moore. His guitar playing is out of this world. This is a great collection of his work, if you just want a best of, you will not go wrong with this one. Shame it did not include victims of the future, but all in all a great collection. I have never forgot seeing gary moore in 1985 on the run for cover tour, hammersmith odeon 28/9/85. To top the icing on the cake, phil lynott came out for the encore, and played out in the fields, and parisienne walkways with him. It was the one and only time that i saw phil lynott before he died, god bless him, gone but certainly not forgotten.

David Gilmour's second solo effort from 1984 see's him deliberately getting away from the distinctive, timeless sound of Pink Floyd. In doing so, About Face today sounds very much 'of its time' - drenched in mid-eighties synth, drums and an awful 'Phil Collins-esque' horn section.

Thats not so say there aren't redeeming factors here. Gilmour's solo's - when allowed to break through the horrid 80's gloss - are great, and there are some decent songs (Murder, Out Of The Blue, Near The End) but there is a lot that is instantly forgettable.

If you want Gilmour on top solo form get his 2006 'On An Island' album, or check out his amazing live DVD's.

As you can assume from the title (Second Helping) this was Lynyrd Skynyrd's follow-up to "Pronounced..." and I think with that consisting of songs they'd been playing on tour for years, this is a better album. It is full of classics - Sweet Home Alabama, Workin' for MCA, The Ballad of Curtis Loew and Call me the breeze. I don't think that there is one duff moment, if you're into either country rock or any 1970's music you should buy this. The band were on top form and the guitar army (Gary Rossington, Allen Collins and Ed King) were the perfect backing to Ronnie Van Zant's vocals. Buy this album and rock!

This album had immense impact on me having grown up with this band as a soundtrack to my early teens and later as a pro musician. The songs speak volumes and seem written by individuals far beyond their years - Apart from that, the album is a rock milestone and it's influence entirely underrated. Free were coming into their absolute peak with this record, along with Fire and Water, Highway, and Free Live. Everything about it is flawless, the cover, the production, the songs, and the delivery. Just buy it and hear for yourself, it's impossible to be disappointed.

This is Santana of emense, cross sectional, swathe across a timeless barrier of a music making Warrior.Disc One are all vocal tracks that some have been re-mixed and Disc Two are all intrumental tracks, which some have been remixed. Santana here have offered up some of their best known to least known tracks, which makes a refreshing change to *Best of, or greatest hits*
Seaming together a timless fabulous sound which takes into the world of the love of real music.
True fans, may argue that this album was a lost oppertunity to go further and acually re-mix all the tracks into an amazing, glourious testamant of change. But what i believe fans are searching for, is more of that haunting, spine-tingling, beautiful little guitar rifts, worked into so many of Carlos tracks over the past many ... Read More:

I can't express how much of a shock it is listening to this compilation. I got to them through Patto and my current fixation on Prog Rock.

This stuff isn't Prog Rock but it's fantastic stuff all the same- fresh, inventive and full of x-factor. It has a superb level of musicianship, great songs and more than my review can express.

Why this didn't catch on I'll never know, but in a selfish way I'm proud I stumbled on them. Make sure you do too!!!
