So many great songs on one CD. I'm sure everyone must know at least one Louis Prima song (even if they don't know it!) Just A Gigolo, Buona Sera, Jump, Jive, an' Wail, Whistle Stop, The Music Goes Round and Round!! Don't expect to sit down and listen to this one, you can't help but want to dance. Brilliant!

3 CDs Led Zeppelin live in pristine sound quality is a dream come true. This is vintage and true Page-Plant-Jones-Bonham. CD 1 proves it all.
CDs 2 and 3 show indeed why punk treated them as dinosaurs: over-indulgent, boring, too long versions alternate with a few gems (Dancing days, Rock 'n' roll).
These and all the CD 1 tracks could have made a world class single live album.

The music on this compilation is magnificent, I didn't give it 5 stars only because it lacks the listing of musicians on each track (some of which are true blues legends themselves).
In this period he recorded with Otis Spann, Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters and others, so it would be nice to have the correct info on that.

Otherwise, this is classical stuff; both vocally and instrumentally...

BTW, if my ears don't decieve me, the performer of "Like Wolf" (track 18) is Howlin' Wolf , although the authorship of the song is attributed to Williamson.

This is a really welcome re-issue from Rhino and at this price it's a total steal. Bond of course was originally a jazzer and famously replaced Cyril Davies in Alexis Korner's Blues Inc. He was equally at home on alto sax and hammond organ and we owe him a huge debt as he brought Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker together in the power house Graham Bond Organisation. When they departed, Jon Hiseman was recruited and met up with Dick Heckstall-Smith - of course they were later to form the excellent Collosseum, building on the Bond sound.

Unfortunately there are no sleeve notes or session details but this simply means that you can play your own game deciding the personnel on each track as clearly there are a couple of different line ups. ... Read More:

Steve Miller was one of the highlights of any school or Uni disco in the mid to late seventies for us rockers. All the classics and more - they sound as good now as they did then - smooth production, great rhythm, and a back beat to make you boogie.
Turn up the volume and tear up the carpet.

I regret buying this. Yes, it's very interesting to compare the duplicate versions, especially wondering about the old arguments about the speeding-up (or not) of the original recordings...but now when I come to play this out of simple love for this wonderful music, I'm annoyed at having to skip over the unwanted duplicates, and wish I'd stuck to buying CDs of the original two separate 1961 LP versions. In pretty well every case, I think they got it right, which version to choose etc.

As a long standing Free fan (probably one of the oldest!) I was really surprised to find an album I had not got. Well, I have now and it is superb. Yes, there are several versions of Alright Now etc., but they are so contrasting in style. It is a pure gem and I for one, will be playing it all day every day.

Not a Rolling Stones album of course, but a fascinating source of information and exploration for anyone interested in finding out about the music that influenced the Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band in the World (and should'nt that be Rhythm & Blues Band anyway?) when they were just a group of music mad teenagers scattered around various parts of North Kent, South London and Gloucestershire.

Rumour has it that Mick Jagger was carrying some of this very music with him when he first met Keith Richards on Platform 3 of Dartford Railway Station c.1962. Meanwhile down in Cheltenham, Brian 'Elmo' Jones was perfecting his Elmore James licks and working his way through the Muddy Waters songbook, including noting that Rolling Stone Blues might ... The replacement of Mick Abrahams with Martin Barre enabled Tull to play a much wider range of music, and they didn't waste any time in doing so. The only blues track is the opener 'A new day yesterday', a nice link with "This was". Lighter acoustic numbers 'Jeffrey goes to Leicester square' and 'Fat man' mix with the harder rock of 'Nothing is easy' and 'For a thousand mothers'. 'Reasons for waiting' is the first example of orchestral backing in the Tull catalogue, while the instrumental 'Bouree' is the only track not written by IA, though the jazzed up version here is not exactly what mr Bach had in mind, some nice flutework and excellent bass have made this a favourite number (both studio and live). 'Back to the family' is a softer rock number, ... Read More:
