I have the first 6 or 7 albums (on vinyl) by Robert Cray and I believe this is the one to buy first. Possibly the best known songs are the title track and 'Smoking Gun' but really they're all great, especially the first five tracks. He can definitely play but it's the singing and the song writing which come to the fore.

Well worth buying for soul and blues fans alike.

I was very fortunate to have seen Rory live during his heyday and (as another reviewer has stated) I often felt he was far better live than in the studio and this album demonstrates that brilliance.

This album is worth the price for the brilliant "Walk on hot coals" alone, great song and what a fantastic guitar solo !

If you love full throttle blues, then get this album.

Raw, tough, fiery and polished. This album has to be one of the best around for all of these things. If you're into Led Zepp, Hendrix, 70s blues rock etc then this has to be in your collection. Not that the Black Keys sound the same as any of these people/groups mentioned, they've got a sound and a style of their own. But it's a good bet that if you feel music in your bones from that bunch then this duo with their stripped down sound and ferocious tunes will get to you in the same way.

Of all his live concert performances, Jimi at Monterey should be an essential part of any Hendrix fans collection. Woodstock? Moments of brilliance in an overlong and under rehearsed set. Isle of Wight? Not perhaps as horrible as they say but still, Hendrix at a physical and creative low ebb. Monterey captures Jimi at an ascendant point in his career. He'd left America a few months earlier, as Jimmy James, an unknown struggling musician, and now he was coming back as the cause celebre of London's music scene, having been embraced by everyone from the Beatles and the Stones, to Eric Clapton and the Who.

This was Jimi's chance to make a name for himself in the land of his birth and he took it with the same sense of purpose of a wannabe ... Read More:

an album which leaves you with mixed feelings, unlike Joan's previous albums, which are full of rich memorable melodies. Into The Blues is a much more uncompromising album.
What makes the album particularly bluesy is the liberal use of a vocal style in the vein of Muddy Waters ( mannish boy ) and John Lee Hooker ( repeticious lyrical talk).
There are some knockout tracks , and others that just didn't work for me, but there is some very smooth bluesy guitar splashed around all over the album, and most people will love this.
There are quite a few archetypal blues/rock riffs a la Status Quo but with a few unexpected twists - eg on Liza, one of the best tracks, there is a variation on the normal expected chord change which sounds dischordant ... Read More:

This is easily the best album they have done, i've owned it for a while and not written a review but upon seeing all the other reviews i felt it had to be said. THE ONLY SIMILARITY WITH THE THE WHITES STRIPES IS THAT THEY'RE A TWO PIECE BAND. They sound entirely different and for a start, Pat can drum and meg can't. However there is a feel of hendrix and definately cream/clapton about theyre songs; this the best album out of the 6(including te EP, which is worth buying aswell)and everyone should buy it. Enjoy.

this is GENIUS. I know it seems hard to get into but it's not really. Once you, yes dare i say it, 'get it' then you will listen to hard zappa, varese, meshuggah, like it was abba. but that is to take away from this slice of magnificent music. listen, I'm just sparing you my brothers review which will, like other reviews, indicate this as the best album ever made. For those that have difficulty on these pages, grow up. and if you want to sing along, buy clear spot.

I wanted to be cool and say i have a captain beefheart album and be cool but not actually like the music etc

GORDON SMITH is the REAL DEAL.

Described by John Peel as " The foremost white Blues guitarist in the world ", Gordon is also one of the country's greatest Blues vocalists.

His 1968 debut album 'Long Overdue' was produced by Mike Vernon for the legendary Blue Horizon label, and featured members of Fleetwood Mac, including Peter Green. For years this album has been a collector's classic, but it is now it has been re-released by Mike Vernon along with other vintage Blue Horizon recordings.

During the 70's,Gordon was a member of 'The Kevin Coyne Band' with whom he recorded several albums for Virgin, as well as a couple of his own for the Italian label Appaloosa, and in the 90's a solo country Blues album 'Out of the Bottleneck'.

Great music, BUT ... The DVD appears to have some sort of protection on it, and will not play on my computer. I am not happy about this and will be returning the album. Items like this should have a warning about incompatibility with computer playback in the advert, so that we know when not to buy!
