'Mess Of Blues' is an absolutely sensational collection of live, predominantly blues recordings from the sadly departed guitar virtuoso and his brilliant band. If you like blues guitar played with passion and feeling, coupled with a tight, jumping rhythm section then this album is for you. Jeff Healey, in the liner notes, describes his band as "the very best bar band that anyone could ask for" and he wasn't wrong - they're tremendous.

The choices of songs are interesting and varied and make for a rich, eclectic, engaging listen, including tracks such as The Band's 'The Weight', Neil Young's 'Like A Hurricane' and Hank Williams' 'Jambalaya', all performed brilliantly. Standards such as 'I'm Torn Down', 'Mess O' Blues' and 'Shake, ... Read More:

I have been a guitarist for 47 years, I have never understood why Clapton is so highly rated, believe me his limitations are laughable. If you want blue-based Rock n Roll, Ry Cooder produces better albums, at least they have heart and guts.
Clapton unplugged is so lame, and the sidesmen so timid, trying never to show up the boss, the album is rehearsed to death. I remember B.B. King on one of his visits saying he was off to see a real guitarist at Ronnie Scott - Barney Kessel. I think when Joe Public decides that some-one is God that person ends up believing it, and if they harbour any doubt then they can always to resort to drugs and liquor.

One time Bluesbreaker and Canned Heat man, Walter Trout has been firing out solo albums for a long time now, but they've always felt a bit incomplete to me. So, it came as a particular delight to sit down with the new one, and find myself hitting the repeat button when it came to an end. For this might just be the best album of his career.

From the opening, autobiographical, 'Welcome To The Human Race' onwards, it's a constantly unfolding pleasure. It's also the album that sees him straying further away from his Blues rock roots, something that may find a few old time fans drifting away. Even I had a bit of trouble with 'The Next Big Thing', a 1968 Beatles style radio rocker. But when he comes up with songs as inspired as the British ... Read More:

Okay, so this isn't Dylan or the Beatles, but it sure is fun.
Lynyrd Skynyrd's debut album isn't just "the one with 'Free Bird' on it", it's much more than that, one of the original group's best efforts, and quite possibly the best one of the lot. It mixes heartfelt ballads, country, swaggering riff-rockers, and the delightfully silly down-home boogie-rock of "Gimme Three Steps" and "I Ain't The One".

I do prefer the slightly tougher (and string-less) live rendition of "Tuesday's Gone" from the "One More From The Road" album, but this one is no throwayay either. And you can't help but love the aforementioned "Gimme Three Steps" and "I Ain't The One", a wonderful blend of self-deprecating "hick" lyrics and gritty guitar riffs.

This is a damned fine album. I mean, notwithstanding the fact that it's 'Ecky and not Icky Thump, added to the fact that I am slightly bored with the concept of The White Stripes and wasn't exactly excited to hear that Jack & Meg were releasing a new album in 2007, the content of this album - or at least the majority of it - has won me over. There are plenty of songs on this album that would easily fit alongside the best output of 'White Blood Cells' or 'Elephant' and hearing that they had gone back to the hard-edged, bluesy style they excel at was pleasing.

Straight away, when I heard the lyrics of the title track, especially the lines;

"White Americans, what?/Nothing better to do?/Why don't you kick yourself out?/You're ... Read More:

Born in 1940's Seattle, Jimi Hendrix would go on to be the ultimate guitar Legend in both his native America and more crucially here in the UK. In the mid sixties, Eric Clapton was God having given the blues sound a complete overhaul, however in the late sixties Clapton was revealed to be just a mere prophet for Hendrix had arrived to save us all.

It's well documented that Hendrix had a gift for creating noises from his guitar that only he could create, this much is true, problem is he raised the bar to a level which has not even been sniffed at since the time of his tragic death in 1970, which certainly has left a big hole on mankind's ability to create.

Despite Hendrix's ability and obvious talent, it was only in the last ... Read More:

I remember this album when it came out in 1965. I wasn't interested in the controversy - the music just sounded great. I had never heard anything like it...... I still don't know exactly how you would describe this style. Anyway , when it came out it became iconic for some people, which includes me.
Although it's of it's time it's still unquestionably listenable today - interpret the lyrics if that is your whim - you don't have to, in my opinion, to merely enjoy the album at first listening.

This collection does "exactly what it says on the tin", i.e. delivers a comprehensive but unimaginative compilation of Bad Co's stand out tracks mainly from their first 5 albums. So far so good.

Unfortunately, it contains no reference at all to the elusive Live album nor does it give anything away regarding demo's or throw away recordings which make Songs Of Yesterday, the definitive study of Free's career, such a masterpiece.

I already owned all of the cd's but bought this because it enabled me to economise on space for my ever expanding music collection. Not much of a recommendation in itself. Good job the music is top notch.

from Gimme Shelter to the last track, good stuff. Very difficult to say something that has not been said already, hard to differentiate between the tracks and say this is better than that. Taken overall, none are better than any other, the whole is one perfect album as performed by the Stones, who are one perfect rock band.

OKAY iam a massive fan of all the early stones albums..but without jones..or taylor,,nicky hopkins..or stu or even wyman..they have beome a limp boring pretentious joke..no soul..no balls..and very fake..they are in it for the money..the ego..why do they do the same songs exactly the same way every tour???its boring..its awful to see.. WHAT HAPPENED??..... we celebrate the 30th year since the stones made a great album( some girls-which isnt really that good)..and the 35 year since there last great tour 1973 australia...iam a hardcore fan, yes i love them but the reality is theyve been a limp, shtcick, conservative, boring load of rubbish for way to long..some songs done over and over agin..in bill wymans book he tellingly states that in 1977 mick started listening to awful current disco ...
