Depend who this is supposed to be essential do-the newcomer to the Urban blues which influenced the British blues bands or essential as the biggest songs are here.Big via other people not especially Muddy who I don't think troubled the pop charts.
Which is besides the point-the pop charts are only a mirror to public taste.
In the U K Muddy waters was represnted in the 50s by a solitary EP which retailed at the same price as Cliff Richard or Elvis so it died a death and was only there because Decca were licensing product from Chess having only just obttained the catalog.
Muddy Waters was also a very unlikely artist to aim his music at the charts for the simple reason that while he may have introduced Chuck Berry to Chess he ... Read More:

I got this album from Buddy's my space site before it was generally released and for guitar players and Blues lovers this is a must have CD for your collection along with the other GREAT Blues players.

The songs are original, except for the ZZ Top Cover, and are tight and inventive and sometimes witty, 2nd Banana. Not a dud song amongst them and he can sing as well.

Buddy is a top Blues player and deserves some real success, spread the word and let's hope we don't have to wait too long for the next one.

John Mayall's bluesy and sometimes jazzy album contains a great variety of quality music. Plus, Mick Taylor is at his best.
I've been playing this album since it first came out...back in 1968, and I still think it's a great listen.
This is a MUST for any John Mayall fan.

The new album by the best guitarist in the world bar none - you really need to know no more ! I heard Sonny Landreth by accident on "Last FM" and was so captivated that i rushed out and bought all of his albums that i could lay my hands on. Unfortunately because of the English mentality that was "none" at the time and I had to order from the USA. If you're coming to Sonny Landreth now you are luckier as these fine albums are now available in this country easily through Amazon. This is Mr Landreth's latest offering and a fine piece of work it is too. Most albums featuring "guest stars" can get a little tiresome as it can turn into a "spot who's playing what" exercise but this is a fabulous album where everything just blends together perfectly. ... This is a damned fine album. I mean, notwithstanding the fact that it's 'Ecky and not Icky Thump, added to the fact that I am slightly bored with the concept of The White Stripes and wasn't exactly excited to hear that Jack & Meg were releasing a new album in 2007, the content of this album - or at least the majority of it - has won me over. There are plenty of songs on this album that would easily fit alongside the best output of 'White Blood Cells' or 'Elephant' and hearing that they had gone back to the hard-edged, bluesy style they excel at was pleasing.

Straight away, when I heard the lyrics of the title track, especially the lines;

"White Americans, what?/Nothing better to do?/Why don't you kick yourself out?/You're ... Read More:

I bought this on vinyl (twice! I wore one out) and on CD (albeit in original format without the 2 extra tracks). This album ranks with the Beano one as a 60s classic: Mick Taylor is brilliant (and still only 20 years old - downhill from now on....) and the whole thing is a masterpiece of ensemble playing. I find myself coming back to it regularly, nearly 40 years on.

One friend described it as a perfect record for making love - rumbustious start, mood switches through the middle, and a drawn-out langourous ending. Never tried it, but I can see where he was coming from.

I have refrained from writing a review of this CD too soon as I wanted to give it enough listens to really try and get to grips with it. However after a couple of years of repeated attempts, I am afraid that despite all the hype, this really isn't a great album by any stretch of the imagination. As someone else here noted, if this didn't have Dylan's name attached to it, do you REALLY think it would have made ANY kind of splash at all? Thsi is music for Gramps to shuffle and sip a Mint Julip on the back porch to, it's certainly not a fitting 'return to form' as so many keep repeatedly trying to make us believe (reminds me of all Bowie's recent releases ALL being a return to form.....)

While pleasant enough as background music in some retro ... Read More:

I like the Stones and I love raw blues and R&B but I somehow missed out on "Exile on Main Street". So, enthused by such great reviews, I was expecting something special... an earthy, pseudo-live album that, despite its origins in drug addled chaos, would grab my attention and be worth the effort of repeat listening while, on the way, delivering up some classic gems. Well I tried, but what I kept getting was a voice saying "look, matey, you could spend hours trying to get into this but the truth is it ain't that good".

Maybe, like Neil Young's "Tonight's the Night" - whose origins and chaotic structure are similar but which still grabs valued space in my music collection - you had to buy it at the time and then listen to it for many years for ... Read More:

from Gimme Shelter to the last track, good stuff. Very difficult to say something that has not been said already, hard to differentiate between the tracks and say this is better than that. Taken overall, none are better than any other, the whole is one perfect album as performed by the Stones, who are one perfect rock band.

I bought this album on the strength on the one song i heard on the radio " I Cant Make You Love Me" and was suprised to find so many other gems on this album. I really didnt know alot about Bonnie Raitt but i am glad that i do now, she has a really sweet voice and the songs are just beautifull they really seem to hit me where i am at in my life at this present moment.

I would recommend her to anyone.
