Obviously Love is Noise is a great track, certainly the most obvious choice for a single, their stunning live performance of it at Glastonbury was certainly a testament to its energetic, crowd pleasing potential. However, if I had to take a pick of the bunch, I would go for Appalachian Springs and Sit & Wonder as being my favourites, closely followed by Valium Skies and Judas - each one equally as detailed and soulful as the next. So that's 5 tracks that instantly grabbed my attention upon first listen!!! - and you know what? - that's FIVE more tracks than any other album I've heard this year, or for the last 5 years in fact, so for that reason alone, 5 stars is well deserved. How refreshing to have a compilation album with a selection of different genre that eases the boredom that develops with most compilation albums. I listened to this album whilst driving and it both relaxed me and kept me awake with its revisiting of various familiar songs and the introduction of ones i've not come across before. A great album!

When Time Magazine said 'they sing like angels' it was far from an exaggeration. With the seemingly endless supply of operatic voices singing lacklustre versions of `Pie Jesu' these days, the three Priests from Northern Ireland are totally a refreshing revelation. What sets them apart from the rest is their connection to this collection of songs that draws you into their world, leaving you believing every word that they sing. There's most epic and heartfelt version in `Ave Maria'; their 'Irish Blessing' is perfection and the lesser know 'Ecce Sacerdos' is totally captivating. It's not brash or preachy: it's just brilliant music.

After hearing A-Punk what sane music lover couldn't want this album? But with few tracks being as fun or catchy I was slightly disappointed. The album failed to make me bop continuously for the 34.2 minutes like i was expecting instead bringing out a slightly less catchy side. It's still listenable... Just not as listenable as I wanted it to be. I'd give it a 7/10 in all.

My copy of this album was pre-ordered and arrived today (Sat 15th Nov). The orchestrations on this album are amazing (The Amy Winehouse Band amonst others) and hat's off to the sax players. Russell really shows that he can tackle any type of song, from the upbeat Papa was a rolling stone (I defy you not to get up and dance!) to House of the Rising Sun, which at 8 minutes, is my favourite track. It's stunning, I never realised just how low Russell could sing, WOW. Add to this the fact that you can hear in his voice that he's really enjoying what he's singing and you have a superb album that proves that he can not only sing operatic arias, but can get on down and rock! What a great album! By far and away their best, before they succumbed to Coldplay-type anthems on Seldom Seen Kid. Every track a winner, but "Very best" is well titled. Enjoy! Anyone that can get Stockport Supporters Club into the lyrics of a ballad is alright by me!!
