111.The Gold Collection by: Tom Jones October 01, 1999

This compilation contain live tracks taken from the Tom Jones's hugely successful North American TV Show (1980/1). For me it was a great surprise to find that on CD2 which features the welsh rocker dueting with some of the guests he had on his show that low and behold he sings with my favourite actess, Cybill Shepherd on OUR DAY WILL COME. Cybill also notably performed a solo version of Bing Crosby's STARDUST which is now quite hard to find. Both tracks originate from an August 1981 show. Other great duets are those with Gladys Knight (GUILTY), Dionne Warwick (ENDLESS LOVE) and Paul Anka (NIGHTS ON BROADWAY).

Following on the heels of the very successful 'Back in the high life' and 'Roll with it' albums, 'Refugees of the heart' did not prove to be a major hit album and marked something of a commercial downturn for Steve Winwood. This is unfortunate as the record contains some excellent material, particularly in its first half, but the preponderance of slow songs, and the relatively uniform arrangements, inevitably reduced its 'pop' appeal in comparison with Steve's two previous albums. Though one of his more overlooked records, this is nevertheless quality rock music, thoughtful and reflecting Winwood's maturity, and well worth hearing. Teen pop from the pussycat dolls sugababes and charlotte church. Ones didn't appear on this cd was Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Gorrilaz and Black Eyed Peas But still exelent a perfect soundtrack for the year Enjoy.

I thought the cd, as a whole, was fantastic. I enjoyed it v. much. Everyone lived up to their best standards (especially Wendi Peters). The only slight blip is the backing and also they could have released a double cd to fit more songs on as I would have loved to hear Richard's Moondance again or Wendi's Be My Baby/I try and Andy's Maggie May. If you liked the show (like me) you will like this a lot, if you didn't you won't.

Alabama's first Christmas album is a fairly mellow album overall, though the pace picks up occasionally. It avoids all the obvious songs, being filled almost entirely with original material. As far as I know, the only cover is Tennessee Christmas, a brilliant song written by Amy Grant, which has also been covered by several other singers. The songs cover all aspects of Christmas. Joseph and Mary's boy caters for the religious aspect. Thistlehair the Christmas bear is a great song for children. Alabama always like to praise the southern states, so we not only get Tennessee Christmas but also Christmas in Dixie – another brilliant song.
