Although this is a great compilation CD box set, buyers should be made aware that the contents are actually a couple of old Pickwick CDs that have been put into a box!! You might want to think twice if you already have Hitmaker (AAD 300272) and Frankie Laine and Friends (5030073111223) as that is what you are going to receive! However, if you don't have either CD, its good value for money. But Frankie Laine fans, I feel, will be let down by this new release

On the other hand, if you want to hear music making at it's most searching and inspirational, look no further. The composers belong to the classical mainstream - Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, etc - but the performances (all recorded 'live') show a group of performers prepared to take risks and have an excitement and probing profundity the like of which I have never heard before on disc. And what performers! Yehudi Menuhin in his prime. The elderly Casals playing with the vigour of a man half his age.
