Composer John Williams does an elegant job revisiting his classic "Indiana Jones" themes from the original trilogy, along with some well-written new music for "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull". It was a most wonderful surprise hearing "Marion's Theme" from "Raiders of the Lost Ark" again. But I was quite impressed with the surreal "Call of the Crystal" with its almost otherworldly three note motif and "Irina's Theme", which is yet another superb example of "sinister" film music along the lines of a softer, but no less menacing "Imperial March" from the original "Star Wars" trilogy. I have had this album for a while and have found myself playing it more and more as time has gone on. It's not a cd which knocks you out on first listen, but more seeps into you. Her voice is reminiscent of Shelly Poole or even Avril Lavine however her style is quite different and hard to pigeon-hole. 'Easy on the eye' is a beautiful, tender ballad, just guitar and her lovely vocal and is a favourite of mine on the album. However, most of the songs are more rock edged and upbeat in tempo with strong lyrics, edgy arrangements (similar at times to those used by Snow Patrol on their early stuff) and subtle harmonies. If you like Catherine Feeny, Shelly Poole, Leona Naess you will certainly enjoy this!

Unfairly known as the `comedown queen', Beth Orton has been mining a particular furrow of the frail chauntese for a decade now. Or, more accurately, as the credible female singer-songwriter for whom massive commercial success has always eluded her. Singer-songwriter. What a dreadful phrase that is- Dylan's a singer-songwriter.hell. Even Robbie Williams is a singer-songwriter. So the phrase is itself absolutely redundant. Meanwhile, Beth Orton seems never to make great commercial inroads or revolutionise the music world. This isn't due to talent (1x Beth Orton = 51 x Joss Stone, according the alegbra of taste), but due to the simple fact that Orton has never been able to transcend the era in which she rose to public prominence. This is simply one of the most joyous albums I own, and I have over 3,000! The mood starts out mellow and lifts higher and higher. If you're not dancing around the room by track 3, you probably need anti-depressants. This is music anyone can enjoy, not just those beardy World Music aficionados. You shouldn't hesitate. Really.

The first one was a ring tone extravaganza, with fresh takes on catchy tunes like Axel-F and Popcorn. This one is more a compilation of catchy songs featuring Crazy Frog, where the Frog is relegated to back-up and choruses. The versions of Queen's "We Are the Champions", the "Knightrider" theme, Right Said Fred's "I'm Too Sexy" and Gloria Gaynor's disco masterpiece "I Will Survive" are the better tracks on the album, but "Nellie the Elephant" wins the novelty prize for pure unadulterated cuteness. "The Final Countdown" also brings back some memories, and anybody who's listened to K-Fed's album will snigger at the version of "Ice Ice Baby".
