I listen to a lot of metal buying in the region of 4 to 5 albums a week. I do find albums like this useful in that I decide if I like the tracks and if I do then I buy the album they are from. In this case this is an excellent compilation but the majority of tracks will already be weel known to most metal fans. I did alreday possess a most of the tracks but it was worth purchasing for the tracks I had not heard although I personally would recommend any of the other Kerrang albums which tend to feature a greater number of new bands. If you are unfamiliar, or do not own any of the music on this album, then buy it, you will not be disappointed. The price of a compilation like this makes it worth purchasing.

I have got to say that Holes in the wall is one of my all time favourite records. When I first heard it I was in a car with a friend and after just a couple of songs decided that I just had to have it. Once I got it, it remained my record of choice for more than a year taking up nearly all the air time on my mini disk player.

Because off my love of their first album, when I found out that they had released a new one, I rushed out to get it, full of anticipation of what the brothers White would be able to offer this time!

I was however somewhat disappointed on hearing it feeling that it was missing what I first fell in love with and unfortunately due to this it was quickly relegated to the bottom of my CD pile with ... Read More:

THIS IS THE BUSINESS. Not since the Money Spyder has James Taylor presented a stripped back band free of horns and singers, leaving the instruments to rule the day. And rule they do. While the Money Spyder was an edgy raw beat soundtrack to the Carnaby Street of your dreams, this album is it's older more sophisticated brother - still happy to cut loose with a room full of go go dancers, but at the same time not afraid to show a bit more depth. With a cracking jazz feel to a lot of the guitar work, thanks to new boy Nigel Price (his solos are just sublime), a rock solid funk fuelled rhythm section, and of course JT's hammond all over this bad boy - you just can't go wrong.

"Welcome To Winners" was rather unfavourably received in the press and failed commercially, but I love this album to bits and out of the 4,000+ tracks on my iTunes, "Let Me Into Yours" is my 3rd most played track. Others such as "The Same Way", "Save Yourself" and "Fade Down" are well up in my chart too.

Why do I love this album? Firstly, I love the ebb and flow from one track to another. I love the lyrical themes, dominated it would seem by approaching death, living life to the full, making the most of the time you have left.... Morbid? Not at all, because these words are framed in music that is gently uplifting, beautiful and catchy. Such a combination often makes for very moving songs, none more so than "Let Me Into Yours". The long ... Read More:

Spacey electro and disco conneisseur Lindstrøm shows his more quiet side with a downtempo, ecclectic vocal showing through the decades. He brings together some obscure vocalists, both old and new, along with a some familiar chords, such as Carly Simon, Dusty Springfield, and Sly and the Family Stone. There are a few spots in the mix where the tempo picks up, but it's mostly about subtle musical twists in genre, and drawn out, soulful turns on the mic. I like the fact there's almost an equal share between male and female vocals. There's also an excellent spoken word track by recent newcomer, Farah, which fits deep into the mix perfectly, with it's lush, building italo disco soundscape backing her. It's also found on the superb, new, italo disco and synth ... Read More:

The Northern Kings are a very strange bunch - and brilliant with it.

This is an entire album of symphonic power metal covers of cheesy pop songs, featuring the vocal talents of four well-known Finnish metal singers: Marco Hietala of Nightwish and Tarot; JP Leppaluoto of Charon; Tony Kakko of Sonata Arctica; and Jarko Ahola of Terasbetoni.

HIETALA is my favourite of the four singers, especially given that I am a huge Nightwish fan. All of his songs - "Don't Stop Believin'", "Fallen on Hard Times", and "In the Air Tonight" - are hits. His incredible range and over-the-top pomp bring a real power and drive to these songs. The last minute or so of Phil Collins' "In the Air Tonight" is particularly brilliant - you just have to hear it ... Read More:
