I've only recently got into to the 'Deth after the release of last album (the equally stunning) United Abominations and have been busying myself collecting all the 2004 re-releases. I picked up the Warchest box-set because there is a lot of stuff I didn't have. There is a lot of album cuts on here that die hard fans will already have, but there's also a lot of stuff from compilations and film soundtracks, Japanese bonus tracks, unreleased live tracks and demos. Everything has been remastered so the sound quality is amazing. I recently got this after waiting for ages for if to come down in price!!! Been a huge Kiss fan since Love Gun, Double Platinum (late 70's!)and have over 60 Kiss albums in my collection, so was really chuffed at the prospect of demos, unreleased stuff, live versions etc, and I have to say, I have mixed views. How many times do they need to release stuff already available elsewhere! Surely this set should have been made up entirely of rarities etc? Slightly disapointed but highlights include the demos and recordings from the early days, which are really cool to hear. Packaging as always is superb- lots of cool pictures etc., but alot of the commentry stuff is already available in the book "Behind the Mask". There has to be ... Read More:

good variety of songs especialy UFO'S doctor doctor and Pilots Magic amongst a selection of well known hits. I give this one 5/5

My only gripe is that Born To Go is at least two minutes shorter than the bonus track on the 2cd Space Ritual (which I'm assuming is what was on the original Greasy Truckers LP), even accounting for the fact that the talking at the beginning of the latter is part of the previous track here. I can only assume it was edited to fit the 'whole set' on one CD but it does make you wonder what other little tweaks they may have made.

Not bad at £3.22 per symphony or 83p per movement.. However, I wouldn't rate the recordings as highly as other versions. I would heartily recommend the more recent Gunter Wand / Berlin Phil series (some of which is currently available at bargain "Used and New" prices) for a more polished, warmer, fuller orchestral sound. It's very much a generalisation (and perhaps more a result of the recording than the playing) but there are times when the strings seem thin and the brass slightly overzealous. Another good source of better quality, low-price Bruckner recordings is Naxos (mainly Georg Tintner and Royal Scottish National Orchestra). The Naxos collection offers a more complete selection, with symphonies '00' and '0' which Bruckner discarded but didn't ... Read More:
