I liked the vast majority of this albums songs. All Pearl Jams hits are featured. A few reason why I have not given a 5/5 star review are: The remastered songs (2 on each album). Theyre just not as good as the originals. Also the album structure I feel is not right. Instead of charting PJ's career chronologically (Grunge-Post Grunge etc), songs are placed in what appears to be random order, although the first disk is a lot heavier. Personally I would have done it chronologically, but you cant please everyone! The album cover is a little naff, the sleeves make it difficult to get CD's out of and often the CD's will fall out if your carrying the album about, what was wrong with a hard case?!

Still a great album, although if you have ... Read More:

This was the first My Chem album I bought. I was pulled in by "Teenagers" and "Welcome to the black parade" immediatly, but I actually took the plunge and bought the album two years after it's release. If I hadn't bought it that day, I don't know where I'd be now.The Black Parade definitely lets MCR's classic rock influences seep through (compare TBP to 'The Wall', Pink Floyd)
THIS CD ROCKS!!! BUY IT NOW!!!

Just check out the clean guzzling bass line on Muscle Museum. The song sets up the perfect suburbian distopia and turns into nothing short of the perfect pop rock single when Matt's voice melts into a suspended guitar solo.

Elsewhere theres the title track Showbiz, an epic of enclosing tension and Cave a similar epic flooding with teenage anxt.

The back end of this record reveals more wonderfully rounded heavy yet alternative rock songs. The lyrics are spot on all the way through especially in Escape and Overdue.

Theres a lush little acoustic ballad too in Unintended, so good they still sing it on tour.

This is where Muse started off, with a CD just as good as all the others, sure the songs might not ... Read More:

Alright? I've said it. This is the best record I've ever heard, which, by definition, means I think it's better than the majestic Songs For The Deaf. No snap decision this; I bought this when it came out, I thought it then, I haven't changed my mind. Maybe my mind was more open at the time because I wasn't really aware of the importance of Nick Olivieri's role prior to his departure - but I certainly don't think that the album is poorer because he's not on it. In fact, I was delighted that Alain Johannes was able to contribute (and then bring his "Eleven" partner Natasha Schneider with him on the tour).

So what is it about this record? Well, how can you describe the beauty of a diamond? The musicianship, the mood, the production, the groove, the ... Read More:

This one took quite a few listenings before I began to realise the strength of some of the lyrics and the emotional power of just about every track.
Some don't like the strong presence of female vocals - personally I love this especially on 'Alexandra Leaving' and 'Here it is'.
I love this album and think others who know Cohen's work will too - and hopefully, many others who don't know his work will hereby get to know it.

166.Scott 4 by: Scott Walker
June 05, 2000
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Scott 4
Oh Scott Walker, how thou has forsaken pop music...

These are simpler times, where melody reigns supreme and lyrics invite you through the door gently. There are arrangements that can't be called "deathly" of "chilling"; they're grand and somewhat cheesy, but completely inkeeping with Scott's glorious take on operatic crooning, always flexing those vocal chords but never wandering off towards that dreaded self-indulgence we read so much about. The opener, "The Seventh Seal", man, it's like Morricone meets J. R. R. Tolkien in a haunted church, with Walker watching over ominously, commenting on the deadly game of chess that takes place. It's a stupendous opener, and it never really gives the rest of the album a chance to recover. The musical backing on Scott 4 ... Read More:

This, the second Steely Dan album, is utterly essential - about as good as rock music gets. More than 35 years old, and still box fresh. Melodic but with a complexity and edge that see off any accusation that this is middle of the road soft rock. For this recording Becker and Fagen took complete control, through the writing and with Fagen taking over as the group's lead vocalist. Finally all the elements of the classic Dan sound are in place. The songs are carefully crafted with sophisticated jazz influenced arrangements, but at this stage in their career, Steely Dan are still first and foremost a rock'n'roll band. Fagen and Becker's obsessive perfectionism had not yet ironed out the soul, and right from the get go, on Boddhisatva, with its twin lead guitar breaks, the band rocks out. ... Read More:

169.Bad Love by: Randy Newman

One of the most universally admired and critically acclaimed, multi-oscar-winning song-writers, this old-timer still has one hell of a lot to say. Randy Newman is one of those guys who writes songs straight from his cynical, sardonic, soleful heart with more than a hint of black-comedy. Laden with pathos and humour in equal measure, this album sounds like it was written by a 60 year-old with more than a life-time's worth of broken hearts and hate-mail, but lucky for us, he likes to sing about it.
Picking highlights from this excellent album is hard - the hillarious "Shame" and "I'm Dead But I Don't Know It"(about an ageing, out of date, singer-song writer who just won't shut up...) or the beautiful "Every Time It Rains" (possibly the sweetest lost-love song ever recorded -written and ... 170.Orff: Carmina Burana from: Great Recordings of the Century

Okay, first, for the uninitiated, what is Carmina Burana? It is that piece of music which they play if someone (prizefighters love it) needs a particualrly ostentatious entrance. Those in the UK who remember the Old Spice ads of the 70's and 80's featuring a surfer - that's Carmina Burana; specifically the first and last track "O Fortuna", "Fortune, you are like the moon; waxing and waning, bringing one man good forune and the next man ill luck" being an approximate translation. It is one of those pieces everybody has heard if they watch television or films at all (Oh yes, John Boorman's Excalibur uses a version). So, subtle it ain't? Wrong! - it has some of the most beaufiful, subtle, sophisticated, and charming pieces of music in it. Dulchissimo was never a more appropriately named piece ... Read More:
