As the previous reviewers have stated the music comes from the classic Crue era - there are very few, if any, bands who have produced music this good. However, this may seem pedantic, but I find the cover & title of this collection in extremely bad taste. Vince Neil, while full of alcohol, crashed his car killing Razzle ( Hanoi Rocks drummer )and he subsequently was prosecuted for the offence. The band, Hanoi Rocks not Crue, were on the verge of mega stardom in the US - it was felt that Guns N Roses filled the gap left by them and gained the status that they were due. Why keep issuing Compilations of the Great Man which contains duplications of his songs. Why not issue the original albums? They have done it with Sinatra, with The Capital Years Etc. So why not with Nat? He deserves better, the man was a genius, & a bloody good jazz pianist to boot. His daughter Natalie is no mean entertainer either!

I actually stumbled across punk. I knew I didn't like pop or Rap. They all seemed to lack meaning and emotion. Rock as well was only good, not great. I heard Alternative Ulster and Pretty Vacant on the internet by sample. And that was that. The Stiff little fingers are amazing and this C.D. is outstanding, containing all their best songs. Both the old classics like Suspect device and Alternative Ulster and the surprisingly good new ones like Cant believe in you and Harp. Trust me you want this C.D. its possibly the best band to ever come out of Ireland and one of the best classic punk bands of the era

Before Hendrix or Cream or Zeppelin the 'oo were lumping slabs of feedback into the mix and making the charts mid sixties. Add to that some lyrics of alienation and anger, an amphetamine driven drum track (well pretty well anything-he-could-get-his-hands-on driven). Their live performances defined everything that followed pretty well (excluding Val Doonican and Perry Como). This and the Yardbirds were the original British sound track for the swinging psychedelic sixties. Armenia City in the Sky - complete with groundbreaking backwards guitar before everyone was at it. Other reviewers have talked about the quality, influence, and sheer brilliance of this album (which I'm ashamed to have only just discovered despite knowing most of the songs on it for 30 odd years - yes, I was there!). What distinguishes this set for me is the insight into the creative process behind a masterpiece, as provided by the takes and retakes. Time and again, we are allowed to see how a relatively raw, but still amazingly tight, piece of work evolves and is refined by the meticulous craftmanship and inspiration of the 23-year old Wilson into what, on any showing, was one of the outstanding musical works of the 20th century. If this is how Wilson was able to create while his head was scrambled, I say 'hand me that egg whisk!"

Most of these recordings are available differently packaged (e.g. the piano concertos and certain individual symphonies), but buying this 6 cd set is the most cost-effective way of acquiring these performances. The symphonies are given eloquent readings with plenty of drama and temperament. Other orchestral works are given similarly excellent performances. The digital recordings are all well balanced. The piano concertos and Rhapsody are played with great refinement and poetry and represent an alternative to a barnstorming approach. This is not to say that they are devoid of drama. This could so easily have been a truly complete collection of all the authorised Cream material but instead of giving us all the live tracks they wasted space with ex-demo tracks of marginal importance. The omission of one of the live versions of 'Politician', from 'Goodbye Cream', one of their finest performances, is unforgivable and means that it is obvious that no-one new to Cream should buy this as a short cut to a complete collection. After all it's not even cheap to buy the (almost) 'complete' Cream this way. It's more economical to buy all 6 original albums which are now cheap and easy to get. But there are two other ommissions as well. If they wanted to give everyone a reason to buy this set they should have gone about putting together this compilation ... Read More:
