This is a great summary of Bollywood music. The first CD covers some of the early big-band tunes, which are jazzy and bluesy. The second CD deals exclusively with funk, and you won't believe that the tunes aren't nicked from Western artists (they aren't). The third CD expresses the unfortunate state of Bollywood today, tacky, cheesy, tunes without distinctive melodies or interesting themes. But this is certainly worth a buy for the first two CDs which I've been listening to for months and months!

So what if the days of singing Mrs Robinson at full belt into my hair brush whilst listening to my mothers stereogram have long since past. My love for the music of this legendery duo never faded. So it is wonderful to find an album which represents who they are and what they stood for rather than a money grabbing greatest hits job. Someone has put a lot of thought into compiling this box set. The album flows beatifully its effortless to listen to . Their music remains timeless and the blend of recorded and live renditions brings is superb. This is a great buy value for money and beautifully produced.

Ok,so some mixed reviews on this one - firstly,I am no big fan of Rod Stewart but I am a big fan of good music and this type of music in particular. For a top rock star like Rod to put his reputation on the line by recording these songbooks must have been a big decision for him to make.I agree that he is no old style crooner but I think he makes a great attempt at it. There are many great performances in this collection and to be fair,he does himself proud on most of the tracks. I think however that the orchestral arrangements are a little bland at times and an artist draws his inspiration from those around him and relies heavily on great arrangements and inspiring performances by supporting musicians. I must admit, I'm baffled by Mr. Derek Denton's review. "The Other Side of the World" is very melodic and soulful, but it isn't even the best track on the album, let alone the only good one. It is perhaps the most commercial song, but I prefer my music to have a bit more character than that, which is why "Eye to the Telescope" satisfies. There is the balance of soulful and romantic, set against vibrant and aggressive. "Another Place to Fall" and "Black Horse and Cherry Tree" are punchy, whilst "False Alarm" and "Heal Over" are moving and personal. For me, "Under the Weather" is the disappointment here, being a little twee and bland. So maybe a more apt caption for this album might be "one bad song".

So what if they were a mass of contradictions (gutter-snipe son of a diplomat, manipulative manager, rebels on the corporate giant label) and found to have feet of clay? That probably only added to their greatness, it was the flaws that emphasised the brilliance. For my money they produced soem of the most exciting, energetic and cool music ever....and most of it is on this collection. OK in truth you should have the original LP's The Clash, London Calling etc etc. But if you want the very best of the LP tracks and all the 45 a's and b's that mattered start here. Good song biog and lyric booklets too. Do yourself a favour and get the Westway to the World DVD and Pat Gilbert's book on the Clash and you'll pretty much get what it was all about if ... It's a pity that Simon Rattle's Beethoven symphony cycle is merely among the latest in a series of recent recordings using Jonathan Del Mar's newly revised Barenheiter edition of Beethoven's symphonic scores. Otherwise, it might have earned recognition as the best recent Beethoven symphony cycle recording. Still it is by far the best Beethoven symphony cycle recorded by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. But should it be regarded as first choice for those interested in a Beethoven symphony cycle, especially one using the new Jonathan Del Mar-edited edition? Simon Rattle demonstrates in these recordings that he is a fine interpreter of Beethoven's scores, which he indicated previously in his Beethoven piano concerti cycle with pianist Alfred Brendel, recorded ...
