Here at a more than reasonable price are three of Springsteen's greatest albums- it's assumed that you'll already have the early classics: Wild/Innocent, Asbury Park, Darkness, River... Nebraska (1982) appeared to be a reaction to the epic recording of The River (1979/1980) and the preceding record company problems. Springsteen basically dumped the great E-St band and made an album of lo-fi demos. This was the album that made me change my mind about The Boss- who I'd had down (like many) as a pro-Reagan geezer in american jeans, who sang abot cars & girls. This 6 CD collection from EMI Classics was released in 2006 to coincide nicely with the 150th anniversary (in 2007) of Elgar's birth in 1857. Elgar wrote some dozen or so oratorios, odes and cantatas for soloists, choir and orchestra, and five of these are represented in this set. These works are played in their entirety, which I think adds great value to the music. I personally like listening to a composer's complete composition, rather than the most popular highlight from the piece, for it often gives a greater appreciation and understanding of the music. Smashing, smashing, smashing. A superb round-up of most of the tracks recorded whilst ELO were with Harvest Records.The quad version of the first album is presented for the first time in full and it is sublime to hear in all it's glory. If I was to go to a desert island and I could only take one album, this would be the one I would choose as I never ever get tired of listening to it. Buy this album now as it is sure to be deleted at some point and to miss out on the quad tracks would be such a shame.

I was lucky to catch his Dublin gig in December 2005 - don't miss him if he's playing in your neck of the woods - he's an entertainer, and a man I have the utmost respect for!
