This beautiful collection of 3 cds contains all Edith's greatest and most beloved songs, and aside from the music, the packaging is top notch. The sleevenotes are lovingly written and carefully guide both new listeners and old fans through her tragic but prolific career. Highly recommended.

I do not like live recordings appearing on CDs when I am expecting the studio cuts that I wanted to buy! This double CD, although containing some classic material was very disappointing for me, as most of the 'big titles' are live. Piaf was a wonderful artist, both live and in the studio but as one who prefers studio recordings, I feel a little cheated. If sufficient information had been available in the listing or on the CD packaging, it would have saved me from wasting my money!

This is a German-only vinyl for this dolls' compilation of 4 unreleased recordings, one old demo, one cover song, and five new recordings!. This is a 180 gram [audiophile] vinyl, and it makes it 100% better and enjoyable. This is an amazing opportunity to get all the amazing punk cabaret attitude on vinyl!, you won't regreat !!

This truly beautiful album by "Hansi" was first released in 1979 under the title "Christmas Classics" and reissued in the mid 1980's on CD under the same title. It has now re-appeared as The Christmas Album giving the impression that this is the only Christmas album by "Hansi". As the previous reviewer states there is also the "Midnight" album and also "Christmas Dancing" and a very unusual album called simply "Peace" on which appear a number of vocalists including Engelbert Humperdinck,Chris De Burgh and pianist Richard Clayderman among a number of other European artists. Okay, she's not the greatest singer in the world and she's not going to get a job as a concert pianist anytime soon but her songs have a kind of cracked charm that you can't help but love. I wanted to give this 5 stars just because I like to encourage this sort of thing but that would mean it was strong from start to finish, and I'm afraid it isn't. It is however, an original and noteworthy piece of work that most people will probably never hear - their loss.

AMANDA PALMER is the lead singer from the dresden dolls who are an alternative US band. This album is amazing her voice is so compelling and you will not regret when you buy it! If you like your music to speak for itself then this album is for you!

Having been an avid fan of the dolls since their self-entitled album was released, I find 'Yes, Virginia' a pale reflection of what the Dresden Dolls are able to do. Generally the album is O.K - the songs 'Mandy Goes to Med School', 'Backstabber' and 'My Alcoholic Friends' being amongst some of my favourites - and don't get me wrong, the Dolls still pull off some wonderfully poetic lyrics. However, this album doesn't seem to have the same musical quirkiness that set the dolls apart from 'alternative' mainstream musicians. Though the dolls do not profess to being musical geniuses, Amanda's piano performance is often annoying where it used to be kookie. I have to give this top marks--first because it deserves top marks, secondly because Marlene and I produced the album together the year before she died. Those hours on the phone, the visits to her Paris apartment, the arguments over what she wanted on the album--"My favourite songs only, and none of the rubbish from my pictures!"--will stay with me for ever. We talked for two hours about "Dejeuner du matin", about the man with the coffee--why did he go out into the rain, was it because the woman was cheating on him? Marlene didn't want the German "Lili Marlene" because it doesn't have the stomping bit at the end, but I eventually won her over--similarly, it was me who insisted on the French version of "Where Have All The Flowers Gone?" and "Mutter hast du mir vergeben?" ... Having bought a fair few Marianne Faithfull collections, I was initially impressed by the range of material on this double album. Containing hits, b-sides and rarities from Faithfull's 60s recordings, it provides the most comprehensive compilation available of Faithfull's early output. I'd particularly recommend this collection to anyone who enjoyed the early material from albums such as 'Faithfull', as the heavily folk-influenced songs allow Faithfull's voice to shine while displaying less of the commercialised 'Decca sound' of singles such as 'Reason To Believe' and 'As Tears Go By'. These 40 songs showcase the best of the start of Faithfull's career, and form a beautiful, fragile, essential collective.
