It's unlikely that anyone who remembers Maurice Chevalier is able-bodied enough to surf the internet and glide into this review. Younger surfers may like to know that he was possibly the best-known French entertainer of his day, making recordings, films and live appearances during a very long career on both sides of the Atlantic, a career beginning in the Folies-Bergère and extending to films of the 50s and 60s such as "Gigi".

Naxos have launched a welcome Nostalgia series, introducing amongst others Maurice Chevalier (1888-1972) to C21 audiences. To sample the special naughty, chuckling, bonhomie in his voice, listen to some of the early tracks. Avoid the first track, "My Potato", which seems to be transferred from a badly worn ... Music : Hope There's Someone
Unlike the last reviewer I am a semi-detached fan of "Anthony". I came across him by accident performing in a Leonard Cohen tribute concert. His voice and manner attracted and intrigued me enough to follow him up. He's gold alright. Redolent of Jeff Buckley a la hallelujah and not much else (maybe Buckley pere's song to the siren).
anyway, get it, enjoy it

Music : 40 Chansons D'or
I bought this CD 'blind' about a year and a half ago and barely a week has gone by when I have not played it through at least once - it falls into the category of music that always digs its hooks into you no matter how many times you have listened to it. Most of the songs comes from the era of the likes of Sinatra and Dean Martin, with the backing music orchestral and fantastic in its own right, and coupled with the sort of lyrics you just don't get any more. This collection of 40 songs will take you through all the emotions, laughing at Tu T'Laisses Aller, crying at Non Je N'ai Rien Oublie, Que C'Est Triste Venise (that mandolin!), or being thoroughly uplifted by Emmenez-Moi. Anyone who has seen 'L'Appartement' will recognise 'Le Temps' as the song ... Read More:
