I think this CD is perfect for sitting next to a roaring fire with children and pets - whilst agreeing that pets are exactly the same as Sophie's cat in `Our cat hates Christmas', children will wonder what would really happen if `Santa [went] on strike', and will more than likely agree their dad is the same as the dad in `The Advent Calendar'! Of course, `The Dragon's Christmas' is the main story on this CD and everyone will enjoy it, especially with its variation on the story of Bethlehem. Like the `Pirate's Sister', it is narrated by the author, Sophie Snell, and is told with such feeling and humour you feel Sophie is in the room with you. Another must for the Christmas stocking.

The Grinch feels like a movie made for two reasons: to cash in on Christmas. And to cash in on Dr Seuss. The movie lacks charm. Nothing really works within it. Carrey's performance is tolerable, but I think Seuss would be mortified at how they've portrayed his character. The Whos of Whoville are some of the creepiest make-up jobs I've ever seen. Although I'm not surprised they made it screen looking this eerie, since Ron Howard is the director, and I've yet to be impressed by anything he's put on screen. The one saving grace of this film is some really nice portrayals of Christmas-y landscapes. They do a great job of evoking that warmth and wonder of Christmas season.
