Like the title of this review says, this film is a true classic. It tells the story of a young boy who builds a snowman that comes to life at midnight. This film is the only film I have ever seen that is funny, magical and sad at the same time. It is also the first one that I have seen that had no dialogue in, but watching it now, I think that the filmmakers were right not to put any in. Having said that, I am SO GLAD that the enchanting song "Walking in the air" is in it. I am also glad that it is hand-drawn, not computer animated. I know that, if you look at the film very closely, there are small errors, but, because they don't have any effect on the story, they really don't matter.

Having been a King's Singers fan for decades I was happy, but still kind of disappointed, to welcome another Christmas album from the group; this is their third such issue on CD format. Happily, the repertoire does include "novelties" (if this a suitable word for old music) and the songs are well organised. Moreover, the performances are the best so far - the recording line-up (there have been a change since :-() is, in my opinion, the best one for Early music.

As a true Waltons fan I thought it my duty to purchase this DVD and so I recently did. One cannot help but make comparisons between the 'original' cast and the 'actual' cast in the series. Apart from the children and grandma Walton all characters are different and because the series' characters have had so much stronger presence the 'original' cast does not stand much of a chance of winning anyone over. The Baldwin sisters in this film look much more like sisters but one gets the feeling that they are less endearing.
Olivia in this film seems almost like a 'psycho', I am sorry if this seems harsh but at one stage John-boy appears almost frightened of her as she seems to be losing it. I wonder how she got through the original casting or perhaps ... Read More:

I feel honoured to be sharing this space with one of the contributors to this magical CD of diverse Christmas music. I can only assume that Grace Rossiter is one of those inspired and gifted humans who can pull this kind of performance from a gang of enthusiasts ~ thank you, Grace
It is so refreshing to hear some new arrangements and offerings on a seasonal collection such as this though I should not be surprised seeing that Naxos is the label

I remember thinking nine years ago 'What the hell do we need yet another version of A Xmas Carol for' (as great as the story is) and consequently, I avoided watching it. But years roll on quite swiftly, and eventually, I thought I'd give it a go, spurred on mainly by seeing Patrick Stewart on a few chatshows down the years and thinking what a nice bloke he was, completely unshowbizzy. He was without doubt a star in this film version, full of awe at what his ghosts are showing him, and full of humanity when he eventually saw the light.

This is quite a snug and cosy feeling production, with alot of attention paid to little details, and the domestic scenes with Bob Cratchet and family are heartwarming. Stewart plays the character as he should ... Read More:

Music : A Child's Christmas in Wales [1988] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Dylan Thomas's delightful Christmas poem is perfectly brought to life in this exquisite film. Denholm Elliot is charming as the grandfather relating the tale of his childhood Christmas to his entranced grandson. The setting is a Welsh seaside town in the early 1900s, and every scene is perfetly recreated. Humour and nostalgia are perfectly blended, as with the boy's struggles to build a meccano boat that the insturctions assure him are 'easy' "Oh easy for Leonardo!" as the grandfather exclaims. And he stands hopefully on a street corner with a sweet cigarette in his mouth, waiting for an old lady to scold him for smoking, but old ladies in those days were not so easy to fool. "And were there uncles like at our house?" his grandson asks "There are always uncles ... Read More:
