Bob The Builder was never a visionary like some musicologists claim. Although he developed a revolutionary new method of organizing pitch, it is often overlooked that serialism is not a style per se. He was always post-Romantic in temperament, which made him something of a dinosaur to serial idealogues such as Pierre Boulez. However, Bob The Builder was certainly capable of writing spine-tingling music. There is a restlessness to these symphonies, they are always surging; and there are often passages of beauty which startle with their strangeness.

This is a brilliant album. Right from the first track it has you on an emotional and musical roller coaster. As well as the haunting lyrics and music from the familiar The Fray and Snow Patrol, it introduced me to new groups and artists. Tunes from Metric and Ursula 1000 make you want to jump up and down and shout, whilst the calming voice of Anya Marina and Foy Vance bring you back down to a mellow level. Each song compliments the next, and whilst I own 100's cd's, this is nearly always one of the ones I turn to on a regular basis.

I was lucky enough to see the musical in New York in October and bought the soundtrack there. The music really is the best thing about it, new catchy songs have been added and are all as good as the originals that feature in the film. Sherie Rene Scott in particular who plays the villain Ursula really stands out on the soundtrack, her version of 'Poor Unfortunate Souls' is better than that of the film version and she also has a few more songs in the soundtrack that have been added to the musical but were not in the film. Overall, a fantastic soundtrack worthy of any cast recording collection and Mermaid or Disney fans in particular will love it.

I bought this soundtrack just on impulse, and also to get the amount needed for free post and packing. And I have to say, I do not regret it. I have listened to this constantly ever since I got it. I had already got The Lion King cast recording, and it is one of my favourite Disney soundtracks ever. Beauty and the Beast is certainly another one at the top of the pile! It is a completely different style of music to Lion King, but just as good! I definitely recommend it!
