A nice collection of songs and her voice doesn't grate as some female singers' voices do. I prefer the voice on this collection to albums featuring the voice of Susie Tallman whose voice I find altogether too high to be condsidered really relaxing. I note this says various artists and yet the album features one female voice throughout. Maybe it really is different singers but it doesn't sound like it when listening. I don't know why albums like this don't make it known the singer's name, it seem a little unfair that they have to remain anonymous, especially when the renditions are as nice as this.

The late Sir Michael Tippett was a lifelong pacifist who served a brief sentence during World War II as a conscientious objector. He wrote 'A Child of Our Time' early in WW II and he wrote the text for it himself after T. S. Eliot, whom he had asked to supply the libretto, told him that Tippett's own outline was sufficient to the task. The narrative of the cantata is about a Polish boy living with relatives in France after his parents had been killed by the Nazis who himself then shot and killed a German official in 1938. He was imprisoned by the French government but that apparently wasn't punishment enough; in reprisal for the act the Nazis carried out the horrific 'Kristallnacht.' This is a good CD for kids, but be warned that all 3 CDs come with copy protection installed. My kids were really upset when I told them they couldn't put the songs on their MP3 players.
