Like most people Moby first came to my attention when he brought out Play, since then I have been a fan of his and this double disc album is fantastic. The first disc is great...it is perfect for working to or to just relax to. The second disc is incredibly chilled, with no lyrics on it is perfect background music if you like your 'electronic-chill'. This is a great album and I would insist its a must for Moby lovers. It is the first album for a long time that I have put straight back on after first listening to it. Its only draw back is that it is under an hour...but i guess it's 'quality not quantity' that matters!

This might serve as a gentle introduction to Irish music, but I know so many of original versions of the tracks that a lot of this is hard to listen to. I mistakenly bought the album thinking it was original artists. The couple on this disk do a game job: woman is a much better singer than the chap. Much better to buy Enya and Clannad originals. Early Clannad albums have a wealth of traditional Irish folk, before they went eletronic, and the Corrs are a great next step. Sorry, but the originals are better.

A dark debut that is both memorable and stylish. The trip-hop feel sounds dated now but this was an accomplished debut with a rack of strong songs - "Tape Loop", "Trigger Hippie" and "Never An Easy Way" being the strongest examples. An interesting set of sounds and musical landscape supports Skye Edwards' smooth vocals.

If you are looking for another smokers delight, then you will be rather unhappy with this cd - it IS mostly trip hop, there are some good tracks on this disk but it is not nearly as mello as previous titles like car boot soul etc. You are better off getting stoned and listening to white noise.

It took me a long time to begin to appreciate this album. When I first heard it I was really disappointed because it is quite unlike "Lifeforms" which I love. But then one day i totally fell in love with one of the ambient tracks toward the end of the disk. gradually over the following years the other tracks followed suit. It is another album of theirs which in that unique and amazing way gets better every time you hear it. Each time I hear sounds differently than the last. Like an experiment in my own perception. I dont think the experiment will ever end. and by the way, at the end of track 2 the child(?) whispering also quietly says "something I cant understand".

I bought this on the strength of TC's kooky but affecting mix of the Doors' "Strange Days" and the exquisite "Originality", a blistering burst of dubbed-out, horn-drenched reggae but nothing on the album comes close to said highlight. It has some excellent moments - their own "revolution solution", with Perry Farrell's shimmering vocals gliding over the surface, is a key moment - and TC are masters of soulful dubby basslines coupled with dope beats and expansive percussive arrangements. Ultimately though it's a bit of a yawn. Too many tracks which meander nicely but do little to excite. It's the kind of album that you'd think would be perfect for a post-club chillout experience but in fact if you did put it on in such an environment someone would probably change ... Read More:

This was the first of my collection, recommended by a friend much younger than myself. After spending the best part of 20 quid having not heard of a single track I was very pleasantly suprised. i have added another 6 or 7 to my CD collection since, but can't seem to find another Gem like this Very varied, a real mixture of tracks and uplifting

I think everyone found the previous release, Jump Leads, a bit TOO smooth for their liking. I have to admit, I'd been snapping up all Fila releases up until that point but just wasn't feeling it. Seems like Phoebus Brumal is the complete anti-Jump Leads. The slick smooth funk is out the window, to be replaced by some seriously perky upbeat tracks. The mood of the album is similar to the uptempo disc of Brazilification 2. Plenty of energy and vibrancy in all of the tracks on offer, however I still don't have those special stand out moments as when I'm listening to Maim That Tune, Powerclown or Braziliafication 1, but I'm glad to see that these guys are still firing these albums out AND contantly changing and shifting their sound. A refreshingly thick slice of humming bass topped with more beats and breaks than you could ask for. Conversions is a great record that remains the unsung hero of mid-nineties electronic creativity. All tracks are coherent, original and beautifully melodic. Very boppy and up-tempo, and with one foot firmly planted in Drum & Bass, Conversions will always make heads turn and feet tap. K&D Live up to their reputation as seamless mixers, creators and producers on this release. Although Amazon have the original release date for this as 1999, it is in fact a much older record that precedes everything K&D have done bar G-stoned (I think!). This further underlines their reputations as cutting edge downbeat peddlers.
