Lemon Jelly move on but not necessarily quite where you expect... and, for fans of "Lost Horizons" this one needs care. Less quirky than its hugely successful predecessor, "'64 to '95" moves closer to mainstream club music, losing and gaining on the way. Gone is much of the humorous and inherently "uplifting" feel of "Lost Horizons" that made it such an enjoyable mass appeal album, in its place is a harder edge with more drawn out, less "easy-listening" work-outs of its themes. Serious stuff then, but is it any good? Well, first impressions aren't great - initially most tracks seem like fairly lightweight electro-rambles underpinned by some odd & often annoying looped samples. I alreay had a couple of CDMs and liked them, but when I heard this one I was hooked from the first bars of Jo Manji's opener. What a song, what an album! Ive now got almost all of the collections but this still shines above the rest. I think its the variety and musicianship which makes it such a tranfixing pleasure to listen to. Try it loud and on your best HiFi for maximum chill factor. I'll refund your money myself if you dont like it!

This is Thievery heaven. Knowing nothing of this group nor anything of '18th St. ' or 'lounge' music etc. all I can say is that this was a staggering introduction! I have since bought all the other Theivery co. albums and yet still return to 'Dance on Vaseline' and 'Boof N' Baff N' Biff' et al, despite the solid roots-dub / Latin feeling to the earlier albums that is traditionally more to my taste. This is chill-out paradise. Buy it!

Having giving this album a good deal more listenin gover the summer, I concluded that whilst not the best chillout album ever, it certainly is driftingly beautiful. Whether you've come back from a hard night's clubbing or are just crashing out on your sofa on a hot August afternoon, this CD is blissful and sublime. I prefer the second CD as it is more 'lifted' and 'open'. The tracks just seem to flow and let you fall asleep to beautiful haunting tunes. CD 1 is by no means dull and is more moving and rhythmic but nevertheless, a compliment to the second. Apology and at off to MoS. I hope 2004 is even better

Since this is one MOBY's first CD's, one cannot be too tough on him. However, the term ambient (penned by Brian Eno in the Seventies) used to mean multi-layered, ethereal space/mood music. Moby keeps the layers and the moods, but the constant percussion (it's good) keep it from being anything but relaxing. This represents a good foreshadowing of what moby was to produce.

This isn't consistently brilliant like Play or consistently good like 18, but it does have some simply outstanding material on it. The opening Hymm, for exapmple, and Into the Blue, God Moving Over the Face of the Waters and When it's Cold I like to Die. Those are the dreamy, whistful spacey ones. Also exceptional is Everytime You Touch Me, and I don't usually like that sort of thumping club music. It's tracks like All That I Need is to be Loved that I don't like. I find them discordant and jarring.

I was a dancer and now do Pilates to keep fit. I love these tracks as they suit a chilled out or more challenging workout. I find this music helps me concentrate and get the most from my Pilates session. I can also take it with me when I travel and it gets me in the mood to stretch and tone.
