I loved Home Alone when I was a child - it was my favourite Xmas movie. This soundtrack takes you right back. John Williams does Xmas music SO well (he even got an Oscar nomination for this score). His carols are great and so are his tender, snow falling cues. The busy, running through the airport cues are goof fun as well. The Xmas songs used in the film are here too. This is the kind of CD to have on at Christmas because, for me, it encapulates the spirit of the season, as does the film.

Any initial disappointment I felt when I discovered that this album was filled was standards didn't last long. The songs have all been covered many times before – some more than others, though Dolly was careful not to repeat any of the songs that appeared on her first Christmas offering, Once upon a Christmas, which she recorded with Kenny Rogers. Dolly's exuberant personality makes itself evident on such joyous songs as Jingle bells, which never sounded so much fun. I really want to jingle thos bells when I hear Dolly sing that song. It's true that the narration style of Prunella Scales is cool and restrained, but that is entirely in keeping with the tone of her script. The music sparkles, and The Nutcracker is full of memorable tunes that children warm to. Can it hold up against all the competition for kids' attention at Christmas? I think it probably can.

Lots of oldies on this one, just as you might suspect from the title. They are true to the original and even my cat enjoyed 'All I want for Christmas is my Two FrontTeeth' ! He sat with his nose pressed against the speakers and enjoyed every minute! The rest are nostalgic Christmas songs from way back in your childhood, ( if your over 60 ) and when things seemed safe and cosie sitting in the parlour listening to the old bacalite radio, the original ones not todays fakes! So if you feel a reminiscence coming on - Buy this - I think you will enjoy going back to the days of Christmas when a child just after the war....

Generally very COOL mix of funky, jazzy, bossa-nova-ish, X-mas songs. Makes for a great excuse to jump around and shake your stuff - go on burn those mince pies!!!!

I ordered this album and thought it was the best christmas album I have ever bought. The songs are all so christmassy and really put you in the christmas mood. It is a great collection of varied artists, so it suits everyone's style of music. Favourites of mine are the beautiful "silver bells", the pretender's version of "merry little christmas" which is delightful, and mariah carey's belting powerful version of "o holy night" that sounds like she has desended from heaven. Buy it and feel 100% christmassy.
