I Love Christmas Music & have been collecting various albums on this theme for years & this album has got to be one of the most sentimental & warming albums ever produced on this theme. The album I had was on Tape & has long since worn out but I've since been trying to replace it. If you get the chance to get hold of this album I strongly recommend that you do so.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to see Michael in a St. Louis concert, met him back stage, told us he had just recorded this album back in November of 2003 and was very proud of the result. Might add this young man made a very positive impression on all who attended that night's show --- he's a first class guy and has everything going for him --- couldn't happen to a nicer person. Pop vocalist of the millennium is Michael Buble, with shades of Connick, Darin, Sinatra and Torme, all rolled into one nice neat package (and that's the plain truth). James Brown was always a big fan of Christmas - in fact, he recorded several Christmas albums over the course of his career, including a rare Internet-only release just a couple of years before his passing. That aside, 'Funky Christmas' gathers together tracks from each of Brown's festive LP's, so fans can have him on the stereo instead of Cliff Richard (sorry, Cliff)! This record places more emphasis on his soul work, and there are not as many funky grooves as some might expect. It is also surprisingly serious, even grim in some places, as James sings of Christmas in the ghetto, and trying to get by without a dime in December. Considering Classic FM's skill at producing CDs for almost every occasion, it's no surprise to see this timely release of Christmas songs for the 2007 festivities. The packaging is of the usual high quality expected of Classic FM, the 2 CDs are in a slim case and wrapped nicely in a card sleeve with (a picture of) a festive red bow on the front which begs to be picked up and bought as a Christmas present. The selection of tracks is well chosen, giving a balanced mix of carols, traditional and modern music. The carols are all good recordings of popular choices from the back catalogues of The Kings College Choir and the Choir of Westminster Abbey, traditionally sung, with organ accompaniment to some of them. In a vote for the best Christmas album, it's a toss up for me between this and Phil Spector's. The voices of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin are perfect for Christmas songs. They sound all warm and homely, and you can almost imagine them standing in front of a log fire singing these. Plus, the banter between Frank, Dean and Sammy is pretty entertaining and makes the songs stand out from the usual Christmas standards. If you get it, you'll bring it out every year and it will put a smile on your face!
