As you can assume from the title (Second Helping) this was Lynyrd Skynyrd's follow-up to "Pronounced..." and I think with that consisting of songs they'd been playing on tour for years, this is a better album. It is full of classics - Sweet Home Alabama, Workin' for MCA, The Ballad of Curtis Loew and Call me the breeze. I don't think that there is one duff moment, if you're into either country rock or any 1970's music you should buy this. The band were on top form and the guitar army (Gary Rossington, Allen Collins and Ed King) were the perfect backing to Ronnie Van Zant's vocals. Buy this album and rock!

The truth is, all of The Door's albums are worth owning and because each album was so different in style, it is important to purchase each one seperately to understand the true artistic diversity of the band. However in terms of packaging and tracklisting, this is the best compilation ever. The 40th anniversary remixes have noticible clarity over the previous CD releases, although it is disc 2 that sees some of the most noticable improvements. Love her madly and hello I love you are subtly different as are riders on on the storm and others although it is these former two that are superior through enchancement.

The running order on the first disc is little different from the previous best of, but disc 2 is nicely balanced with all ... Read More:

Being a huge fan of Bryan Adams, was anticipating this album a lot. Listened to it a couple of times, but then totally lost interest and have not listened to it since then. The lyrics, music choice and everything else seems to be just polished up from previous work. I mean, here we have one of the best male singers of the world, who did unforgettable master pieces before, but now there is nothing special coming out any more. I hardly remember the songs now, and to be honest do not even feel like going back to play it again. Was hoping for more of a change, more rhythm, more greatness from Bryan Adams, but was a bit disappointed. It is not a bad album, the songs are good, but I was expecting something a lot better than that, hence only two stars, just because it is ... Read More:

After the Goldrush the song itself. Is a brilliant song, only 3 verses. The third verse is the most important with regard Mother Nature. I would advise people to read Arthur C Clarkes story called Childhoods End. Verse 3 of the Neil Young song puts that story into 5 lines:-
"Well I dreamed I saw the silver spaceships lying In the yellow haze of the sun
There were children Crying and Colours flying All around the Chosen ones
All in a dream all in a dream, the loading had begun
Flying Mother Natures silver seed to a new home in the Sun
Flying Mother Natures silver seed, to a new home."
A truly inspirational song and an album which shows great versatility and lasting power. Along with Harvest my favourite Neil Young Albums.

I know this is supposed to be one of Dylan's best albums... but I don't think it is. Since I was born in 1978, I can't really comment on how revolutionary this record was, and I can't comment on Dylan's abandonment of folk for the new rock n' roll sound. Unlike Dylan's audience in 1965, I am unhampered by any anti rock n' roll prejudices, but I'm afraid that for me it's just a fact that Dylan's early folk albums are better than his mid 60s rock n' roll albums. I say it's a fact, but of course you know that I mean it's just my opinion. It's not a case of whether he betrayed his fans, folk music or the civil rights movement. It's just that I don't respond emotionally to the tunes on Highway 61 Revisited. I've always thought that Like A Rolling Stone was bland, and the rest ... Read More:

It has been difficult for some time to buy a Kinks compilation that truely represents how good a band they were.

For me, this collection does just that. The real advantage is the second disk which I, contrary to the previous reviewer, think is the main reason for buying this cd above any of the other alternatives.

In particular, the tracks David Watts, Dandy, Mr Pleasant, Where Have all the Good Times Gone?, Well Respected Man, Starstruck and Shangri La are all fantastic songs. Shangri La in particular is an overlooked gem.

If you are speculating whether to get a Kinks cd or not, then this should really be the place to make your first stop.

There are some people who come into your life in whatever fashion and change it utterly. Dylan more than anyone else through his own search for who, what and where he was going and also in musical terms formed an articulate voice for our inarticulate postwar generation. He throughout his search through the musical lexicon hall of fame including such luminaries as Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly and Cisco Houston injected a large dose of adrenalin into our teenage angst and we started to recognise what kind of world we were living in and and that we wanted to and how to change it.From thinking that in the words of one politician "we had never had it so good "we started realising how bad it was and and an inkling of how bad it was going to get.Dylan's songs and whole repertoire encapsulate ... I first heard "RainDogs" in the 1980's. We probably have most of Tom Waits' albums now. "Closing Time" remains an absolute classic and is highly recommended.. some plaintive tracks backed by piano and, of course, thoughtful lyrics and a great voice. I like his later albums too, but this is much more mellow. There isn't one bad song on the album, and that's why I rate it a "classic".

I just can't understand some of the negative listings on here... "almost a demo.. an album 'our' tom would prefer to forget." I just don't get it. It takes all sorts, really.

This is a great album
