This compilation could be the right investment for the buyer who wants only one CD by this band. Featuring their two best known tracks "Somebody to Love" and "White Rabbit" the CD is likely to satisfy the casual buyer. Containing songs from all their 6 studio albums + a couple of live recordings it gives a pretty good general view of the band's recording career. It will always be a matter of taste and a subject to discussion which specific tracks ought represent the various albums on a compilation CD. I think most tracks are well chosen even though I miss great tracks like "Come Up the Years" (Takes Off), "My Best Friend" (Surrealistic Pillow), "Martha" (Baxter's) and "The Good Shepherd" (Volunteers) ... Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a vague recollection of hearing track one, "Come On", debut on Ready Steady , Go. Since then, I've been a fan of "early" Stones, previously compiled on what was the "London Sessions", but may have been renamed. It was good, and this is equally good. I guess the record company is maximising on re-issues before their fifty years is up. Then , presumably, we'll all be able to buy it all again for 99p in Woolworth's.

I've often said that "stadium rock" crap of the mid 70's spawned punk rock. I'd like to think it also spawned "pub rock", a U.K. mid 70's phenomena that incorporated a low rent, no nonsense gang of r&b loving musos who played in pubs to smaller audiences. No one better exemplifies this description than Canvey Island's Dr. Feelgood. Led by lead singer /gob iron blower Lee Brilleaux and lead string bender Wilko Johnson (who played in the choppy style of the legendary Mick Green of The Pirates), "the Feelgoods" (as they were known to fans) were balls up rock n' roll that didn't need 20 minute guitar solos, or lasers, blow in the back of your Roller or champagne and caviar. "Every Picture Tells A Story" is one of Rod's truely best albums of all time and a real must have CD for all the fans! The songs are the best and above all it is a real collector's item. BUY IT!!!

I first came across Dire Straits via a track on a Hope and Anchor live compilation album. The track was 'Eastbound Train' which sounded quaint, but striking among the new wave and manic r&b across the rest of the album. It ended up as the b-side to 'Sultans Of Swing' when they finally got around to making their own records. It was a bit of a sleeper, not waking until the band made waves in the US, but then they did sound rather out of time in the late 1970s. Though the band went on to stratospheric success and Mark Knopfler's writing continued to develop, this album has the feel of the bar band, complete with rough edges, a tight feel and a few bum notes. Having read through a lot of reviews/comments about this album, I find the accepted view to be, that it is a great album, comparable to their best and that this 'version' comes with some good, but not necessarily essential, bonus material. Oh, and there are even some people who don't like it. Well I actually count myself lucky that I came to this album only recently because it means my view of it wasn't skewed by familiarity with its much shorter former incarnation. I actually played it as is, unaware that the additional tracks had not been part of the original release. My impression was one astonishment. The tracks listed for this disc,with the exception of dylan, Kenny Rogers & Townes Van Zandt are foreign to me as regards the movie. Where are the tracks by Credence, the beautiful title track "Tumbling Tumbleweed" and the end title track by Shawn Colvin,"Viva Las Vegas"?? Most of the other listings on the disc,have no association with the film for me.

A very listenable and relaxing album, one that has grown on me over time. The songs fit together very well, in particular I like 'New Kid In Town' and 'Pretty Maids All In A Row'. All of the songs are meaningful, and I'm still getting more from this album each time I listen to it.

I didn't know who Bobby Charles was when I purchased this record. I bought it solely because "The Band" (minus Robbie Robertson) were the backing musicians. While individual players do stand out, particularly Garth Hudson's unique organ and accordion parts and Levon Helm's incredibly laid-back drumming, the spotlight belongs firmly on Charles' effortless vocals and peerless song writing. Put quite simply this is one of those very rare albums where there isn't a single bad track. The contrasting tempos and moods of the song create a charming variety as Charles swaps between funky country grooves ("Street People", "Save Me Jesus") to exquisitely sweet and tenderly arranged ballads ("I Must Be In A Good Place Now", "Tennessee Blues"), whilst all the while maintaining a coherent and seamless flow ... i heard probably their greatest ever song 'house of the rising sun' which gave them a number 1 in england and the USA about a year ago so when i saw the album on sale at amazon i decided to buy it and im glad i did! the animals have a different sound from my other cds which are in my collection including the kinks, led zeppelin, the beatles, the rolling stones and the who but is definetly one of the greatest albums i have ever bought, tracks such as we gotta get outta of this place, its my life, road runner, dimples, dont let be misunderstood and im gonna change the world are great tracks and also boom boom and club a go go tiperfy how great this album actually is!!!! great band! dont hesitate in purchasing this album.
