I first heard "RainDogs" in the 1980's. We probably have most of Tom Waits' albums now. "Closing Time" remains an absolute classic and is highly recommended.. some plaintive tracks backed by piano and, of course, thoughtful lyrics and a great voice. I like his later albums too, but this is much more mellow. There isn't one bad song on the album, and that's why I rate it a "classic".

I just can't understand some of the negative listings on here... "almost a demo.. an album 'our' tom would prefer to forget." I just don't get it. It takes all sorts, really.

This is a great album

This is obviously most famouse for the famous rock riff Smoke On The Water how can you not like that song. The best songs are Highway Star, Picture Of Home, Smoke On The Water & Space Truckin'. Deffinetly a Rock album to buy and deffinetlty should be considerd a classic. DEEP PURPLE ROCK!!!!!!

To put it more clearly, this CD shows all the limitations of a live album, as usual sound is poor, lot of talking, nevertheless it was my first CSN&Y record some years back and I fell in love with the band. You have to remember that this is about 35 yrs old, so of course people were quite different at the time, they believed (or were supposed to believe)in peace, love and so on...nevertheless the music is still great. The version of Southern man is so much better than the "After the goldrush" version, interesting also the acoustic version of cowgirl in the sand (you won't find it anywhere else, not even in Neil Young's bootlegs). A lot of other songs are great: Chicago, The lee Shore, Right between the eyes, all of them don't suffer much from the live version. ... Read More:

A lot of fans and critics enjoy using the term `the Springsteen canon' when it comes to discussing the highs and (very few) lows in The Boss' career. When it comes to The Rising, the canon is very much filled with some of the finest gunpowder around.
Simply put, this is one of Springsteen's best.

The hype that surrounded the album's release focused on his first full recording with the equally legendary E-Street band and of course, the fall-out from 9/11. I bought this album with an open mind, because all the Springsteen albums I own (Born in the USA, Devils and Dust, Magic, The Essential, Lucky Town, Tunnel of Love, Born to Run, The River, Greetings from Asbury Park) have never left me disappointed. I fell in love with the music immediately: Lonesome ... Read More:

After the release of the magnificent "The Boatman's Call" it seems Nick Cave has chosen to release an album as soon as he had two or three inspired songs ready. It was certainly true for "No More Shall We Part", "Nocturama" and "Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus" and it goes for "Dig!!! Lazarus Dig!!!" as well.

On this latest release the songs "Hold on to yourself" and "Jesus of the Moon" hold the standard we have come to expect from Nick Cave over the years, while the rest are bland and leave no lasting impression, even after repeated listening. When Nick Cave finds his inspiration he is an exceptional songwriter and performer so I'll give three stars for the two songs alone. If only he had put the best songs from the last four albums on one album instead of four we would ... Read More:

"A total classic record, that is unbeatable in many ways".

This particular tribute came from one Paul McCartney, who over the last forty years has declared his never ending love for 'Pet Sounds'. And we sure as hell don't know more than he does, so it goes without saying that 'Pet Sounds' is one of the greatest albums ever made.

But what astonishes the most, is that Brian Wilson wrote this virtually single handedly. The Beatles had just released the amazing 'Revolver', for Wilson to come out with something even better.

The saying that genius and madness are two sides of the same coin, it's no surprise to know that Wilson really was going mad at the time (He's since recovered somewhat). His eclectic use of organs, flutes, dog whistles and harpsichords created ... Read More:

This is my favourite Who album, because it contains a terrific variety of styles and subject matter and a skipful of wit and silliness. The extras add even more of everything. 'Who's Next', 'Quadrophenia' and 'Who By Numbers' are all 'mature' collections of fine material, but 'Who Sell Out' acheives something almost unbelieveable for any 'serious' group: An album listeners can return to like an old pal. This album is flat-out Loveable. By their own admission, the 'Orrible 'Ooo never set out with that in mind! This is a treasure chest. Enjoy!

This is a re-record from 1998-ish. I own it - I was on holiday and in desperate need of some Johnny when I bought it. Unfortunately this is rubbish. Spend your money elsewhere. There are much better albums out there with the original recordings!
