I've always loved the Bachelors and grew up listening to their music, dad was always playing them...of course I had a crush on them, after all they were two great looking blokes from Ireland with superb voices. It's a great CD with all my favourite songs and makes for wonderful lazy Sunday morning listening. Just to sing along with none of the hissing and static that used to go with vinal records is a bonus as well. If you are a fan of the Bachelors then buy this CD I can promise you won't be disappointed. Just listening to Marta...wonderful,hmmmm!!, happy memories.

It has been difficult for some time to buy a Kinks compilation that truely represents how good a band they were. For me, this collection does just that. The real advantage is the second disk which I, contrary to the previous reviewer, think is the main reason for buying this cd above any of the other alternatives. In particular, the tracks David Watts, Dandy, Mr Pleasant, Where Have all the Good Times Gone?, Well Respected Man, Starstruck and Shangri La are all fantastic songs. Shangri La in particular is an overlooked gem. If you are speculating whether to get a Kinks cd or not, then this should really be the place to make your first stop.

The only compilation among a gazillion to span Orbison's Sun, Monument, MGM, and Virgin successes is a welcome add to the Essential series that now, post-merger, features RCA & Arista artists as well as Sony's. Roy Orbison is one of my absolute favorites. He simply may be the best rock 'n' roll singer ever. Amazon really should update the track listing to reflect the few re-recorded versions. While the originals should be here, the remakes are a legitimate part of Mr. Orbison's career. Roy's popularity was at a deeply undeserved lull circa 1987, when David Lynch used some Roy songs in his classic/eerie film "Blue Velvet." can scarcely believe that with so many tracks 2 of my favourites are not there : I'm looking out the window ( isn't no 2 a big enough hit?), and Ocean Deep ( a regular fans favourite ). I could go on, but those 2 struck me immediately. I will save my £100!The 78 is a gimmick too....

'Rust Never Sleeps' is an intriguing,odd and at times excellent album with songs which must rank among Neil Young's finest.The album was recorded on the road during the 'Comes A Time' 1978 tour and it's a half acoustic,half electric affair.The majority of the tracks were either recorded in one take or live in concert but because the audience is omitted during the mix the album isn't 'live' but yearns to be.You will need to purchase the excellent 'Live Rust' to appreciate the actual tour concerts and includes four of the nine songs here. 'Rust Never Sleeps' however does contain some of Neil Young's strongest compositions.It begins with the acoustic 'My My Hey Hey' which is aimed at the music industry and 'Pocahontas' is one of Young's finest pieces of work,pitiful ... The beginnings of CSN are the stuff of rock legend, meetings at Joni's (or was it Cass Elliott's)house, Nash's seminal high third harmony and then Woodstock. This first record is full of arguably, some of the best music these three would ever make. The melody, structure and sound were highly original. In a time when guitars were getting louder and harsher, the mostly acoustic sound was an intersting departure. The songwriting is excellent throughout and although of it's time in theme and outlook, the content feels very pertinent to today's cynical and jaded mainstream world view. Three such strong characters were always going to agitate and annoy each other. But on this record there was as yet no signs of the fragmentation and drug fueled paranoia that would later tear the group apart.

Many people think that this is the "finale" of the Beatles career. However, they went on to make Abbey Road in the same year. I'm of a mind that I like the original LP version (with the lavish picture book etc).The songs were stripped back to basics when the "naked" version was released, but I still think that the "enhanced" versions of Let It Be, Across the Universe and The Long and Winding Road are still the best, along with the first version of Get Back. If the original release had included Don't Let Me Down, it would have been almost perfect.

Just bought this today and it thoroughly deserves to be thought of as the bes tlive album ever from jailbreak to the rocker lynotts charisma shows through especially just before the rocker. all in all for 3 quid even if your not the biggest fan its still worth it. its one fo the best cds i have and will probably remain so.

What an album! I have never known two songs hang down your head and time to make me cry! They are two af my fave songs EVER! But the whole album just oozes by wonderfuly! Tom is an amazing geezer and this album rocks from start to finish! BUY IT!!
