This is no background music CD. Stick this on and be ready for the atmosphere to seep out of the speakers. It's the early hours in a small bar with an audience intimately gathered around a stage featuring Tom Waits and friends, and you're asked to sit down and listen in too. There are songs, stories and jokes a plenty delivered in brilliant fashion throughout. The measure of this is in a song like 'Putnam County', which amazingly has me feeling homesick for a place I know nothing about. There's no need to worry about wasting your money on this - genius at work.

A collection of songs from one of the USA'S most underated bands. Apart from a few personal choices, the ommision of Day and Night is a major error. That said if you want a broad look at Little Feat this album will satisfy your curiosity. Llowell
George slide guitar hits the spot and the rythmn section holds everything together. They deserved more fame than they got and on a good night there was no better live band around.

Having previously mislaid my copies of Chronicles 1 & 2, spotted this today and thought it would be an ideal replacement.

On the plus side, the tracks have been remastered since the above compilations were released and they have never sounded better,
taking 18 of the 20 tracks from Volume 1 (ignoring "Commotion" and "Someday Never Knows"), and 6 of the best from Volume 2.

Great to have this huge 24 track selection on one disc, but in order to squeeze them all on, the 11 minute guitar workout on "I Heard It Through The Grapevine"
has been sacrificed, and replaced instead with a 4 minute edit. (Still have the original on mp3 anyway!)

I may have a dodgy pressing but having already exchanged it twice, beware ... Read More:

This was the first Fleetwood Mac album I ever heard as a child, and I instantly loved all the songs on it. Some I didn't really understand untill I was older but I still like this ablum best. So I was shocked when I got hold of 'Rumours' and hated most of the song's on it. So I guess each album is different, enticing different people with different music tastes. Always try to hear the music before buying, that way you wont be dissappointed.

I know this is supposed to be one of Dylan's best albums... but I don't think it is. Since I was born in 1978, I can't really comment on how revolutionary this record was, and I can't comment on Dylan's abandonment of folk for the new rock n' roll sound. Unlike Dylan's audience in 1965, I am unhampered by any anti rock n' roll prejudices, but I'm afraid that for me it's just a fact that Dylan's early folk albums are better than his mid 60s rock n' roll albums. I say it's a fact, but of course you know that I mean it's just my opinion. It's not a case of whether he betrayed his fans, folk music or the civil rights movement. It's just that I don't respond emotionally to the tunes on Highway 61 Revisited. I've always thought that Like A Rolling Stone was bland, and the rest of ... Read More:

For me, Bob Dylan's status is built on the period from 1962's 'Freewheelin'' to 1968's 'John Wesley Harding'. Everything else he did is second class at best, including the overhyped 'Blood On The Tracks'. That early period covers the full range of his rapid development and by the time of this album he'd left the more direct folk-protest genre behind. Perhaps, though, my expectations of 'Blonde On Blonde' were too high. There's no doubt that Dylan was on a lyrically-creative high, but he chose to be a musician rather than a poet and that's where his inconsistencies lie. One of the major strengths of this album is undoubtedly his band of Nashville sessioneers, who would record in their own right as Area Code 615 and Barefoot Jerry. Thanks to them, this is about as close as Dylan ever got ... Read More:

This could have been a lot better, the remastering is not that good and I must agree it is a bit of a one track album.

I listen to an expansive range of musical styles and ages, from "The Classics" right through to Metal. Now I'm not calling myself an expert in the field by any means, but you can usually get a gut feeling pretty quickly about the effort, imagination and skill put into any work - and this album, from the first listen - give you audio pleasure at every turn. It just oozes skillfull musicianship and beautifully crafted harmonies. The type of work that will always be considered a classic and will always be replayed by the listener over and over again. As for the opinions about Young's involvement etc - it really doesn't matter - CSN were already fantastic - adding in Y was simply a case of adding an extra ingredient of a similar style - and for me - on this album - his presence is only just as ... OVERALL GRADE: 10/10
Prince's 2nd best album, behind "Sign "O" the Times". Just edit "Purple Rain" a little bit and it would rise from 8/10 to 9/10, because at 8.41, it is too long. (and "Purple Rain's" outro is more than 5 mins!)
