Music : The Best of Black Sabbath
First of all I think it is plain to anyone that Sabbath invented HEavy Metal and are still the best in the buisness today.

Secondly, Black Sabbath are far better live, and I listen to my Black Sabbath live cds (and I listen to my live cds far more) than they are in the studio they are slightly caged in my opinion and the sheer power of the songs are lost slightly. However despite this if you only own one Sabbath album it should be this one, as it takes four songs off each of the first six Ozzy albums. This basically means all of the good ones! Plus the title track of Heaven and HEll.

Another complaint though is who came up with the bright idea of not putting Changes on here?? Probably one of the Best Sabbath songs ever!!! ... Read More:

Most bands blow their energy on their early releases before honing their craft to produce something with depth. On this evidence, Judas Priest did it the other way round. 'Sad Wings Of Destiny' suggests a mature band, a well-structured work of linked tracks with a wide musical scope, yet without a track out of place. Whereas some see this as revolutionary, however, I feel its quality is more reminiscent of early 1970s rock than a foretaste of the all-hell-and-no-notion metal that dominated the 1980s. Uriah Heep, Mountain, Nazareth and UFO are among the bands that some of the passages remind me of, while the magnificent guitar interplay of 'Dream Deceiver' tends to recall Wishbone Ash. The subject matter meanwhile follows, to a limited extent, in the ... Read More:

Screaming For Vengeance is probably the peak of the Priest's commercial creativity. All aspects of the record come together perfectly, from the sheer strength of the songs to the iconic artwork and to the somewhat radio friendly hit single `You've Got Another Thing Coming', which did wonders for their career in the US (ironic given the fact that Point of Entry failed to dent the US market when it was written for this purpose).

Opener `Hellion/Electric Eye' is an enduring classic, slick, memorable and totally unforgettable, whilst the follow up `Riding on the Wind' races along with both some uncharacteristic impassioned drumming from Dave Holland (now airbrushed out of the Priest history books for obvious reasons) and the trademark dual guitar attack ... KISS in 1982 were seemingly in decline. Their last three studio albums had steadily declining sales, and they seemed to have lost all direction. To come back with an album like this is a testament to the shrewd nous of Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons and their brillaince at producing great rock music.

The album starts as it means to continue with thundering drums leading into the title track. New drummer Eric Carr finally gets to show off his skills and was never better. Gene also excels throughout the album, on I Love it Loud and the menacing War Machine in particular. Paul contributes I Still Love You and the frentic Danger as well as the awesome title track. There are no weak songs on the album, only fantastic songs and good songs. Here is KISS as they ... Read More:

Looking at the other reviews opinion is clearly divided on the subject of this album. Fair enough. As far as I'm concerned this is is as far away from the magnificence of their first, and their most recent, albums as you can get. Grunge was coming and Maiden, along with a lot of metal bands, had totally lost their way. It's an album with few, if any, redeeming qualities. They were out of ideas. It's derivative, and not even good at being that. It's also one of Bruce's worst vocal performances as he tries a slightly more throaty style which just doesn't work for me at all. Public Enema Number One, Hooks In You and Bring Your Daughter are just embarrassing.
And if you want to know what the band thinks of it, try to find out when they last played a song from it live. Not for very ... Read More:

'Phenomenon' was vital in UFO's switch from their early spacey stuff to the hard rock that broke them in the UK. The hard-driving, zigzagging guitar figure makes 'Oh My' a great start to the album and the playing of Michael Schenker is wonderful throughout, exciting at its best. The Quo-like 'Doctor Doctor' became a breakthrough hit and is possibly only bettered here by the white-hot 'Rock Bottom'. The latter track, however, also highlights how ordinary most of the rest of the songs are. The attempts at thoughtful, acoustic-tinged songs, 'Crystal Light' and 'Time On My Hands' are professionally-performed and pretty dull. 'Too Young To Know' is tame, 'Built For Comfort' is a tired retread of an old blues song which sounded a lot better in Howlin' Wolf's hands. The instrumental 'Lipstick Traces' ... Read More:

This is one of the all-time classic hard rock albums. I agree with the other reviewer who says that Schenker and Mogg bring out the best in each other, and this album and the next studio album they did together 18 years later (Walk on Water) prove it. Having said this, it should be noted that Schenker frequently reaches this guitar-playing standard without Mogg - though Mogg is probably Schenker's best song-writing partner.

Anyway - to the record in hand. Only You Can Rock me is a superb opening track with a haunting melodic solo in the middle that has to be one of rock's timeless great moments. Pack it Up and Go is a great-song that simultaneously show-cases Schenker's talents. Arbory Hill slows things down nicely before the more ballad-like Ain't No Baby and Lookin' Out for No. 1. Let's be honest...this is never a "great" album. It's ok, and there is no shortage of hooks, but the lyrics are so bad they really put you off. Come on - "She's personal property", "make love like a man, i'm a man" - for christ's sake. At least AC/DC can do misogny/lewdness with humour or tongue in cheek as well as better tunes. That said there are a couple of good tracks on here - White Lighting, Tonight, Tear it Down. Worth a listen but please, it's not a great album.
