This five disc set contains all four original Black Sabbath albums with Ronnie James Dio as vocalist - "Heaven and Hell", "Mob Rules", "Live Evil" and "Dehumanizer". All are remastered with improved artwork and new sleeve-notes which certainly are revealing - who knew Sabbath had barbecues where Ronnie cooked up his pasta and meatballs for them all?

The albums themselves are all good, with the first two, 1980's "Heaven and Hell" and 1981's "Mob Rules" being the real classics. However, 1982's "Live Evil", which has always suffered from a rather flat mix, benefits greatly from the remastering. It has also been spread across two discs, so you get the entire, unabridged album (the 1996 Castle Records edition chopped out almost all ... Read More:

I can understand why this isn't the most popular Lizzy album: this ain't the Lizzy we're used to and it's a bit folky/ prog-rock.

But I've had this album nearly 20 years now and I still play it due to some outstanding tracks like Sarah (not the late seventies version) and Buffalo Gal.

These songs were re-recorded in edited versions for later albums which cashed in on their chart success, but Thin Lizzy fans won't be disappointed in this unusual, slightly pretentious but highly melodic and enjoyable album.

Had this since 1972. Vinyl with a gatefold calendar. It may sound slightly dated but to me is still the finest 35 mins of Rock and Roll mayhem ever recorded. From the well known Under my Wheels / Desperado and the epic Halo of Flies to the 2 and a half minutes of You Drive me Nervous (did Garage Rock ever get any better). This is a class album. He never better'd this as a solo artist.

I knew the obvious Zep tracks (Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love, etc) and keep hearing about how good this band is, so I bought this compilation. Apart from the hand-full of well-known tracks, most of the tracks on here are very poor - repetitive, unimaginative and self-indulgent. Several tracks 7,8 even 10 minutes long, with the same riffs just repeating over and over again; they might have been OK as 3 minute songs, but stretching them out just shows how little there is to them.

If this is the best they can come up with as a compilation, I'd hate to hear the tracks that were left off.

Maybe they are just an acquired taste, or maybe they are just overrated.

Along with the Rolling Stones, no-one has taken the core-roots of rock laid down by Led Zeppelin, Yardbirds etc, better than Aerosmith. Recorded at a time in their lives when normal people think about slowing down, this is a stunningly fresh and energetic album that rocks possibly harder than they ever have done. Despite it's very difficult writing and recording (the band swore they'd never make an album like this again) this, somehow, miraculously, hangs together very well indeed.

This album spawned two hit singles which now sit comfortably alongside the rest of their back catalogue in their live shows ("Hole In My Soul" and "Falling In Love"). Even better are the rest of the tracks, especially "Nine Lives", "Taste Of India", "Kiss Your Past Goodbye"and ... Read More:

To the UK public, Aerosmith might as well not have existed until the 1980s, when Run DMC got them to feature on a cover of one of their own songs. But you can forget all that stuff they've done since. The early albums of the 1970s are the real deal. If you listen to the first track of this 1973 debut, you'd be hard pushed to identify it as an Aerosmith song. This is r&b in a heavy rock style, chunky guitars, basic, right down to forgettable song titles like 'Somebody.' It's solid right through though. Like many debut albums, it doesn't stand out in terms of style. The band had yet to forge a sharp identity; they achieved that on their third album, 'Toys In The Attic.'
As is also often the case with hard rock bands, their breakthrough US hit was the one ballad ... Read More:

This is very different to other Iron Maiden and not in a bad way. So many Iron Maiden have different Opinions on this album and Virtual XI. I have no problem with any of them they both have great songs. The best songs here are The Sign Of The Cross, Man On the Edge, Fortunes Of War & Blood On The Worlds Hand (cool bass intro). Blaze is a great vocalist and this is a great album. I recommend getting This and Virtual XI as your last Iron Maiden albums and getting the classic albums Killers or The Number Of The Beast. First time I heard the album, it didn't really grab me. But I have dusted it off again recently and listened to it 3 times in the last 2 days, and I moved from 3 stars to 5. The album really rocks! Doogie White is 10X better than GB and much grittier than JLT. On some of the tracks he sounds as good as RJD... I think on Still I'm Sad he sounds better than the already awesome version on the various live albums from the RJD years. Hall of the Mountain King is also great. The guitar playing is superb throughout - varying from classic heavy Blackmore riffs to some wonderful delicate melodies.

Overall, in the league with Rising and LLRR, and much better than Down to Earth or Bent out of Shape.

Having no great expectations of any Heep album after Magician's Birthday I was really surprised by this one. With the exception of the disappointing title track the songs get better and better as the album progresses, culminating in the atmospheric Rolling On and the up tempo and highly memorable Sympathy. I have been really pleased with this purchase and may be forced to sample later material in the hope of finding a similar gem.
