Vault (1995.) Def Leppard's first hits compilation.

From their formation in the mid-late seventies to the modern day, Def Leppard has been one of the most consistent rock bands out there. From their days as part of the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) to their days as a classic hard rock band in the eighties to their modern days as a pop-rock band, they rarely fail to please. It took them long enough, but at long last we have a Def Leppard greatest hits compilation. How does it measure up? Read on for my review of Vault.

PROS:
-If you're a very casual fan, and the big hits are all you're looking for, this might be enough for you. You get hits like Pour Some Sugar On Me, Bringin' On The Heartbreak, Rock Of ... Read More:

Destroyer by kiss is their fourth studio album and was released in 1976 and was the album that launched them omwards although many argue that it was the previous years release of their live album called alive that did that and no matter what they were onto a winner regardless of what this sounded like, fortunately this is a good album with some strong songs but let down with some obvious enough filler and a muddy production that while not constant is most hurtful in the great track 'God of thunder'.
The album isnt as glammy as they would get and isnt as heavy as they could be but has a good time feel about it,although as per usual the lousy lyrics that appear at times can make or break how you feel about kiss so you have to see how that ... Read More:

When I first bought this album back in 1974 I wasn't quite sure what to make of it. This was the first outing featuring the twin guitar sound of Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham so I expected something different, but I was surprised at how mellow it was. Ok so the band had changed direction before. In the Eric Bell era they went from a folk sound on the first two albums, to a heavier raw sound on Vagabonds so I guess I was anticipating hard rock here, but although it does contain a couple of heavier songs in Sha-La-La and Its Only Money, the guitars are played down somewhat with strings featuring on the title track and Dear Heart. This may have been due to the production of Ron Nevison which the band was allegedly unhappy with. There are also, what ... Read More:

'Rocks' brings to fruition the style that Aerosmith developed on their first three albums. Its predecessor, 'Toys In The Attic,' is a masterpiece, despite a rather soapy closing track, but 'Rocks' is more consistent in style. It doesn't necessarily contain better songs, but it possesses a dirty, funky undercurrent. The titles do more than hint at the subject matter: 'Back In The Saddle' and 'Get The Lead Out' aren't about horses and dogs.
Unusually, for a great hard rock album, Joe Perry doesn't load the airtime with extravagant riffs. The trick is in the band being what is essentialy one big, sexual rhythm section. Steve Tyler rasps his way into the opening track as if to signify this. There is no 'Walk This Way' on 'Rocks,' but Aerosmith seem to have ... Read More:

This album has always been underrated. The album peaked at 28 in the uk and 31 in Billboard. It has a fine balance between rock and soft rock. This is due to Ken Hensley who is responsible for most songs. The song Rain is an example of a fine tune. It is also heard on his solo album Proud words on a dusty shelf (1973). Ken is still recording great albums. When i first finished listening the songs i said WOW..this is great. I played the album at least a hundred times.
Spider woman could have been a hit single but in my view but they released sweet Lorraine and that was no sucess. Blind eye is my favorite song. It is a dark song with great lyrics. Overall the album feels "dark" and the tension is pushing it to a great level. The album ends with the great song "The ... Read More:

Great album, let down by some lame copy protection which means that it isn't recognised by my computer so it can't be ripped for MP3 player listening.

I grew up listening to Black Sabbath. During the mid-70s they, along with Rush, established themselves as my favorite band. I've had all the early Ozzy era albums on vinyl, then on CD and now I treated myself to these remasters on the strength of Joe Siegler's review on his excellent Sabbath webpage.

I wasn't disappointed. There's a clarity and depth here that isn't present on the other versions I've owned previosuly, so its a delight to listen to these newly polished versions. Bill comes across better than ever, and they haven't mucked up Tony and Geezer's sounds in the process.

Well packaged, with a smart velvet-covered booklet telling the band's story & including the full set of Geezer-sanctioned lyrics.

I won't go into detail ... Read More:

I bought this after buying his greatest hits "Hell Is" this is an awesome rock with great solos and perfect vocals by alice which i can't see no one hating his vocals. Best tracks for me are Hey Stoopid, Snakebite, Might As Well Be On Mars & Hurricane Years. This is just awesome rock with no gimmicks. Come on you gotta love Alice Cooper.

I didn't expect much of this album when a friend lent it to me a few years after its release, but 'Fighting' is remarkably strong considering it seems to have passed quietly by the classic album lists. It does take a cover, Bob Seger's 'Rosalie,' to give it its flagship track, but it's a great version. The best self-penned track is the softer 'Wild One,' which features some wonderful soloing and an aching vocal performance from Phil Lynott. All of the tracks are at least good, they represent a healthy variety of approaches and most rock solidly, especially the last track. The whole is definitely greater than the sum of its parts because of the momentum it generates. Only just the full five, but worth it for highlighting how underrated 'Fighting' is.

I was nine years old in 1975 and somehow I missed out on this great album (I liked the Wombles at the time). Now at 42 I finally get to hear an amazing piece of work.It never ceases to amaze me how some of my generation dismissed the 70's as a time of old dinosaur rock, hippy noodling and middle of the road soft rock tosh when there was such diverse and creative music around.Alice influenced the punks, the rockers, yet still manages to sound unlike anyone else here with a creepy cinematic rock opus of unparalled magnificance,or something like that.
