When I'm in a car, travelling at speed, with the sun out one of the first albums I'll reach for is the Undertones.

The vim, verve, panache and life in their music is I think second to none. The following singles are crucial to any lover of shiny freshly minted pop.

Teenage Kicks
Here Comes The Summer
Get Over You
You've got my number ( why don't you use it )
Wednesday Week
It's Going To Happen
Julie Ocean

And some great b-sides

Let's Talk About Girls
Mars Bars
Hard Luck
Top Twenty

I'll just say a couple of things about some of these. Firstly 'You've got my number ...' is a completely unrecognised gem. Reaching only #39 at the ... Read More:

I have over the years listenened to most (if not all) of the so called 'best albums ever made' and there is no doubt in my mind this is the one. Rock 'n'roll in its purest incarnation. Please, if you love guitar rock 'n' roll trust me and buy this album and, if you don't agree, I'll give you your money back (actually the last bit is c**p but you get the idea.)

I actually stumbled across punk. I knew I didn't like pop or Rap. They all seemed to lack meaning and emotion. Rock as well was only good, not great. I heard Alternative Ulster and Pretty Vacant on the internet by sample. And that was that. The Stiff little fingers are amazing and this C.D. is outstanding, containing all their best songs. Both the old classics like Suspect device and Alternative Ulster and the surprisingly good new ones like Cant believe in you and Harp. Trust me you want this C.D. its possibly the best band to ever come out of Ireland and one of the best classic punk bands of the era

Music : Reasons to Be Cheerful: the Very Best of Ian Dury & the Blockheads
I've been a huge fan of Chas & Dave for many years and on that basis a friend told me to get this compilation. Wow what great music and I was amazed at how many tracks I recognised. Ian Dury's lyrics are pure class, very funny and although there is a lot of swearing it really adds to it. "Mash It Up Harry" and "My Old Man" for some strange reason give me confidence in myself. This compilation has helped me re-discover my sense of humour which had sadly become misplaced as is often the case with so many people these days. If you want to hear brilliant musicianship, catchy songs and be truly uplifted then this is the one for you...

Having played 'Marquee Moon' to death, I was going to buy Television's follow up on its release. Adverse reviews put me off, and I didn't change my mind until recently. Now I find it's sometime talked of in classic terms. It is a very good album, I think, but the praise is as exaggerated as the criticism. 'Glory' sets the tone with an alluring repeated riff, something that several of the tracks boast. 'Foxhole' is a more ingenious song than I remember it being cast as when it was released as a single. There are also some imaginative musical digressions on the later tracks. Even so, it's the usual case of the lean, hungry and vital debut album being followed by a more polished and rather more comfortable second effort. The tracks are not as distinctive as ... This has got to be the best upstarts album. There is no chance of slowing down on this one. The upstarts areon top form with some amazing, agressive lyrics about life for the working class in late 70's/early 80's britain. If your a fan of raw, political, street punk then i would definatly reccomend this. It has to be said, this is a definate step up from Teenage Warning, though that is an amazing album but this album is more consistant of great songs. My personal favourates are Never 'ad Nothin', Police Oppression a great song about police brutality, Shotgun Solution a song about revenge, Out Of Control, We Gotta Get Outta This Place a cover of The Animals song. This should be in every Punk/Oi fans collection becasue you wont find a many better albums than ... Read More:

Bands reforming and making new music don't have a great history: see Free As A Bird, Forth, Zeitgeist, etc. but Television's third album marked a great improvement on second album Adventure: Remastered & Expanded. The only weak point is Tom Verlaine's vocals, which aren't as good as they were on Marquee Moon.

The greatest rock and roll album ever made. With the standard makeup of vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, The Gun Club stripped away the fluffy production of the 70s that had infected even LA Punk bands and reached through the fog of corn whisky to the very swamp culture of depravity that inspired rock and roll in the first place. This is the album Panther Burns and Alex Chilton hoped to record, but never approached, and only the Cramps ever become a worthy satellite of. This is the Elvis we all always knew was underneath the jumpsuit when he said his backup singers "smell like catfish." Let us hold in abeyance the current faux-worship of Jeffrey Lee Pierce that has become a pedestrian given for dead rock figures. On the internet he has been elevated to the ... Read More:

Well, three and a half stars really!

Cast your mind back... 1985, the Damned were mainstream,(kind of). 1986, a 10th anniversary and an album, "Anything", then it went a bit quiet... Alright so when the mortgage repayments were due they'd do another reunion/farewell gig every so often and there was the occasional feeble compilation album but new material? 'Fraid not. Until, in 1996 "I'm Alright..." came along. This 2002 release simply has a couple of BBC sessions tacked on to the original album.

Make no mistake... this is not a follow up to "Anything"! This album harks back to simpler, happier times! What we have here is, in the main, a collection of good honest punk songs. All the Damned's verve and enthusiasm married to a greater sophistication ... Read More:
