I have never been overly enthusiastic about Generation X compared to some of the other bands from the 70-80s era. For example no one can compare to the Sex Pistols for the 70s and in my personal opinion the Dead Kennedys were the highlight of the 80s.

However, this album is well worth getting. Billy Idol has an amazing voice and the vocals are great. Classics such as King Rocker do get stuck in your head with very good riffs and tunes.

Perfect Hits is a good album because it has all of Generation X's finest singles with a wide variety of different sounds, but all definitely catchy and listenable. The Untouchables in my opinion is one of the best Generation X singles and with other unmissable ones such as King Rocker, and ... Read More:

The Stranglers released Norfolk Coast in 2004 to almost universal aclaim, a CD that saw The Stranglers return to what they do best. Rousing and cleverly constructed songs, lot's of pounding bass, swirling keyboards, clever arrangements and some typically quirky moments. The question was, would it travel into the live arena?

Actually, there was never such a question. The Stranglers have always been an outstanding live act and these new songs were just perfect to add to a set list that was in need of a bit of refreshment. Lets face it, if you see The Stranglers they have to play No More Heroes, Golden Brown and the other classics. What this live CD shows is that the sprit in the camp has also been lifted and they launch into the new ... Read More:

If you've ever heard the League's stuff before then you'll know what to expect. If you've never heard it before then treat yourself. The bulk of the stuff is all early singles which is good because this was when the ANL were at their best. Streets of London, Woman, I Hate People etc. Also included is So What, banned when if first came out because of its lyrics, however here in its full glory. The later stuff is minimal, not bad but thankfully non of the dirge that they later recorded.

A brilliant live album is made even better with the remastered version enhancing the sound, the original release was very murky!
Television start the show with the Elevators song "Fire engine",they then play most of the tracks from "Marquee Moon " and "Adventure " That's the beauty of Television's live show, they like to jam and on the song "Foxhole" there is an added guitar part which make it a better version than the one on the album !
They also cover "Knockin' on Heavens door" and there's fine guitar playing (don't know if it's Verlaine or Lloyd ) and the final track is "Satisfaction" is brilliant
For me the gem of the concert is 15 minutes worth of "little Johnny Jewel" this is surely Verlaine,s finest moment!
Not a bad track ... Read More:

107.Black and White by: Stranglers
August 01, 1988
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

>>More Details
Music : Black and White
The Stranglers produced three albums in quick succession. 'Rattus Norvegicus', their first, was liked by much of the music media in 1977, while a few short months later saw the release of 'No More Heroes' - an album that was less favourably reviewed, but which, at the same time, led to The Stranglers charting with several of its tracks. Then, in 1978 came 'Black and White'. While the feel of the album was undeniably 'Strangleresque', the power of J.J.Burnell's bass guitar, the subtle weaving of Dave Greenfield's synth, the merciless pounding of Jet Black's drums and the distorted, overdriven - yet somehow 'controlled' lead guitar of Hugh Cornwell had become almost a single entity. The result, as heard on 'Black and White' is a set of superbly ... Read More:

Always overlooked by the reviewers who always seem to all write the same stuff. You know cartoon image, leather jackets, ripped jeans, 3 good albums, never changing etc. etc. You would be best to ignore them and Johnny Ramone(RIP) who always claimed The Ramones to be pure punk and dismissed this album and the excellent End OF The Century as garbage. He was wrong and so were those silly critics. This is pure pop, and the Ramones were one of the best pure pop bands ever. The melodies are amazing, total sunshine. In an alternative Universe this would have been no 1 with a smash and the kids would have danced in the streets with it on their ghetto blasters.
Buy all their albums up to this one (Sub..Jungle is not quite so magical) and remember them ... Read More:

"Brand New Age" was the Subs' second album and is pretty similar to its predecessor "Another Kind Of Blues" which is definitely a good thing. However, lyrically it's much more barbed - songs like "Organised Crime", "Public Servant" and the title track, which is about the government monitoring its citizens via CCTV ("First they watched you in the cradle/And now they're gonna watch you die") are ferocious tirades against authority. Stand-out track though is still "Warhead", a slow-burning song about the ever-present threat of nuclear war which sounds all the more scarily relevant now twenty years on. Also included on the re-issue is their frenetic re-working of Santana's "She's Not There" which is well worth hearing. A good album.
