This is another matter. Of course the first three albums come first--but then, especially if their 80s bump-and-grind never appealed to you, you really must get this set and settle in with it. It is a kind of endpoint for punk's relationship with its audience--not just the pose of hostility followed by loud/fast pure entertainment, this is a record where the hostility is real, on both sides. It's more like Iggy's "Metallic KO" or Dylan's "Live 1966" electric set--it is the MUSIC that is too much for this audience, and the band just shoves its loopy, difficult dadaist music back down the throats of these would-be pogo-ers. Ok, I've tried, honestly, I've really tried to like this album but after several hundred listens over the last few years I'm afraid to report that it is a stinking turkey of a record, I'm still embarassed that I have this in my collection, it really does sound like the work of a spent force. Ok, "Coup De Grace" is ok (but too slow compared to the live version), but apart from that and maybe "you don't know...", "jump over my shadow" and "in the end" the songs on this album really suck,...sheesh, the song "known only unto god" is possibly the WORST SONG EVER WRITTEN (Vera Lynn would like it,I rest my case!). This album really is the suckiest of the sucks, and that's a lot of sucks! Buy "Norfolk Coast" or "5Live01" instead! Those 2 couldn't be further removed ... Read More:

as you know "adventure" is Televisions follow up to the excellent "marquee moon". In my opinion adventure is just as good, if not better than it,s predecessor. It's definitely a more mellow sound for this LP but the song writing is excellent and the music is top quality also .With repeat listening of this album the songs start to reveal hidden depths and are really infectious. Ironically i play "adventure" more often than "marquee moon" and i have grown to love it very much indeed. So if have already got "marquee moon" than this cd is the perfect companion set to there ground breaking debut. Buy it !!!!

I was amazed by david57448's review. This bloke clearly wasn't around at the time. Or if he was then he must have been with the poseurs around the "Bromley contingent" and all the rest of the middle-class mockney clothes horses. ATV were exactly what it was all about in 76/77/78. True DIY ethic, painfully honest stuff, completely fearless. Mark Perry's a forgotten genius who deserves more recognition. If you're at all interested in hearing music that encapsulates what punk really meant, start here.

one word describes this sex pistols compilation album and that is "Awsome". it really is great, full of classic tracks full of the pistols' trademark punk ethics and sarcasm. my personal faves are "god save the queen" and "i wanna be me". all i can say is if you like rock music, and want something loud, buy this, you will never regret it!

I have yet to forgive Blink 182 for covering 'Another Girl, Another Planet' but then again perhaps it will help inspire a new generation to explore the work of one of the standout fringe-punk bands of the era? What really made The Only Ones special is that they could actually play a really tight set live and this knowledge helps one appreciate how good the studio albums are. I doubt if there were two many takes - just play it like we would on tour and get it down on an 8-track! Another Girl, may be the best song the Only Ones ever recorded but unfortunately this is definitely not the best collection. There is just a bit too much slow stuff going on for my liking. Terrific live album of this intractable musician. Iggy Pop can hardly be surpassed in fierceness and intensity. He behaves like a hurt wild animal that has been urged into narrowness and now beats out blindly. Whereas the studio versions of the songs are already quite fast, the pace on these live versions is just breathtaking. I don't want to highlight any single songs. They are all excellent. By the way, on piano is David Bowie who also has written some songs together with Iggy Pop.
