Music : Singles Going Steady
Beautifully packaged in Men with Bears 180 gr. vinyl, this record shows different sides of this seminal band. A pop face that is filtered by a punk structure, psichedelic influences, a true passion for songwriting. But above all, we hear from those grooves a real and complete lively performing group. This record tells us stories from another era, when recording songs was an immediate and true act. That's why I love listenning to punk records like this: sincere, hard, direct, full of ideas, very distant from today's mass pop levelled plastic productions.

Superb live album from 1990 from the much missed poet laureat of punk. A mixture of rock, folk, punk, music hall & jazzy bits from the much missed entertainer. So why only 4 stars? Why the omision of Blockheads?

Just received this great cd from Amazon and am thrilled with it!
I've been aticipating a cd release for this LP for ages and am so glad it's arrived.
The best thing for me about this album is that it reinstates Billy Idol as a great rock performer and writer and has rescued him from the "gary glitters retarded nephew" image that he has made for himself in the states where his musical output has,in my opinion been crap.
However this album is not just William as it features some great guitar playing from Derwood and a good solid rhythm section with Tony james (whose song writing seriously outweighs his bass playing!)and Mark Laff kicking up a storm. One of the strongpoints of this collection for me seems that it almost captures a ... 2,000,000 voices, the 3 rd album to come from the amazing geordie punk band. 3 albums on and they still are as angry and politically chrged as they were at the start. They raise alot of issues for the working class in Britain such as Unemployment, War, people taking advantage of authority. This album shows the upstarts moving from their raw punk roots and entering a more varied music style. With the accoustic England, the reggae I Understand, the very soft classic style I Wish, the country style Mensi's Marauders, the vocal Heaths Lament. The others are all punk, they havn't gone too far. My persnoal favourates on this album are Youre Knicked, a song about police abusing thier authority, Last Night Another Soldier, We're Gonna Take The World, Kids ... Read More:

If you have only just got into this band like I had and decided that you wanted a good collection of songs I would recommend that you buy this. Right from the opening words 'So F****** What' this album reels you in with catches guitar playing and great (sometimes humourous lyrics)

This is not an album for those of you who are easily offended but for those who don't care and want to hear a band that 'influenced' Metallica (So What appears on Garage Inc) then this is a brilliant buy.

Highlights are So What, Long Live Punk, Animal and Judges and Whores

167.Modern/a Different Kind by: Buzzcocks

Music : Modern/a Different Kind
The Buzzcocks hit the shelves and the streets with their latest album "Modern". To the initiated, you need no further introduction - Pure and Simply Buzzcocks. For the un-initiated this is a very contemporary introduction to the "New Hormones" sound of the Buzzcocks. Peter Shelley, never one to keep his hands off his organ, ensures judicious use of samples and sound effects within the often "classic" tunes found on this CD.

The Shelley composed and sung songs are of course quite instant and very enjoyable. There's clever use of "Dirty" guitar sounds and the ever present harmonies that allowed songs such as "Ever Fallen In Love" to gain a legendary status. "Rendevous" presents ... Read More:

well I had this on LP a few years ago and I just loved it. My favourite song has to be Come On Let's Go by the Ramones/Paley Brothers so catchy. Also I just love Rock and Roll High School tune anyway. This is well worth buying which is why I am again on CD this time. The Ramones at their usual fantastic best.

I give this five stars, because it is quite simply brilliant, but I don't think that this is the place to start listening to the Slits. My advice would be to know (and love) "Cut" before approaching this album.

Before buying the album, I wondered whether 8 low-fi punk era tracks, followed by 7 hi-fi dub era tracks would work as a whole. Weirdly, it works very well. And the more often I listen, the better it works.

Music : Entertaining Friends: Live at the Hammersmith Odeon - March 1979
Definitely a quality performance from the Buzzcocks, one of the great 1st generation Punk bands of the 70's onwards and still playing live to this day, very good quality sound too which is a bonus, because as rightly pointed out, a lot of bands years ago had poor quality recordings of live performances doing the rounds, so this is well worth the money.
