This is rough, raw, minimalistic sonic punk ok - frankly I am certain not many people could pull this off as brilliantly as they did. Plus this album stands the test of time. Why? Honesty, determination, attitude, unwavering political belief? Those guys had a message to deliver and they did it uncompromisingly their own way whether you liked it or not - form or substance! The sheer unadulterated energy delivered throughout this short bomb has made it a firm favourite of mine for approximately 20 years - and that just won't change.

When it comes to punk albums there's none better, when it comes to daft punk albums then the Damned's Machine Gun Etiquette is special. I now own this album on vinyl, cassette, CD and 25th Anniversary CD, I can't get enough of it. From Love Song launching the album through to Plan 9, Channel 7 and ending with Smash It Up parts 1 and 2 every track is a real classic. I recently saw the Damned live at the Nottm Rock City (my favourite venue) and they played just about every track from Machine Gun Etiquette which highlighted the importance of this album to the band. Once you have heard this you will be hooked, go on buy it and be happy forever.

Are Suicide in fashion again?- I forget. Here Blast First follow up the deluxe double cd issue of Suicide's debut with its follow-up.

The second bonus disc is of interest- recorded in Suicide's formative years at the Musuem for Living Artists in 1975. It's proof that bands aren't always brilliant straight away- but on these First Rehearsal Tapes are found the roots of Suicide. The opening Speedqueen relates as much to the DIY-production common to Lee'Scratch'Perry's work in the 70s (see The Upsetter's Bird in Hand to contrast the percussive sound). Suicide's themes and sound are becoming apparent- a world where Alan Vega croons Sci-Fi inflections like a 21st Century Elvis, while Martin Rev stirs up a minimal maelstrom behind him. Time for an objective view of this album, I think. I bought 'Love Bites' on its 1978 release at the same time as what would prove to be The Jam's life-saver, 'All Mod Cons'. With 'Ever Fallen In Love', the band's most famous song, riding high in the charts, I was optimistic that it would build on The Buzzcocks' classic debut album. The sleek sound of that album was replaced by an edgier, more turbulent production and the songwriting revealed a band who were trying to mature and push their ambition.
The six songs that comprise the first side of the LP suggested that they were achieving their aims. Apart from the single, the best song is probably the breathtaking 'Nostalgia', which Penetration were later to cover on their acclaimed debut album. 'Sixteen ... Read More:

I bought the original 'Never Mind The Bo**ocks'when I was sixteen (1978). I played it until i literally wore it out, I still have it somewhere in the house. So, I decided to replace the original 'Never Mind the' with a new CD and bought 'Kiss this' at the same time. Their sound and lyrics are as good today as they were when i first rushed home with my original album. A definitive and timeless album.

This album is real quality. I remember being a huge Jam fan when I was younger and actually writing to Polydor in about 1990 asking them to release the abundance of Jam material that I had on my bootlegs. Whether I made any difference, I don't know, but then this album came out shortly afterwards - the first 'new' Jam album in over ten years!!!

Tales From The Riverbank and Butterfly Collector are of course the highlights, as well as Move On Up and The Great Depression (popular live favourites at the end of The Jam's career). We've Only Started is an early reworking of "Riverbank" and you also realise that the band did the best thing choosing Beat Surrender as the last single over Solid Bond In Your Heart.

It appears that Polydor have lost the early Jam recordings ... Read More:

I would seriously reccommend the 12-track highlights album as opposed to the 24-track sprawling mess. Firstly when dealing with erratic material like this, the sequencing makes or breaks the album. The highlights album begins with Malcolm McLaren's voiceover and then crashes into Rock n Roll Swindle - a good start. It includes all the best of the rock n roll songs like Something Else and Lonely Boy but none of the dross like Johnny Be Good and Road Runner where Johnny Rotten struggles to remember any of the words and consequently swears a lot! The Ten Pole Tudor songs are completely insane but seem to fit in better on the 12-track album than on the longer version.
However, the lyrics are still shocking, yet have none of the political oomph of the first pistols album. Perhaps this is the ... Read More:

I only own one piece of vinyl, I tracked a copy down in an independent record shop more than 20 years ago and have held onto it proudly ever since. Remarkably I find that 'Can't Stand The Rezillos' is on CD. This is THE album of its time. Outstanding !!

In a now (in)famous appearance in 1973 for the BBC's music programme The Old Grey Whistle Test the decidedly unimpressed presenter Bob Harris dismissively introduced the New York Dolls as pale imitators of the Rolling Stones and as 'mock rock'. Rock 'N Roll, dovetailing the whole of their cocky, confident debut album with the lion's share of its underrated follow-up Too Much Too Soon, convincingly shows Harris's cheap jibes to be fallacious. As Patti Smith Group guitarist Lenny Kaye remarks in his adulatory liner notes: "They were a bridge between generations, a missing link, a ragged glory that would replicate itself endlessly through rock's successive generations, from the Ramones-Clash-Sex Pistols axis through the Smiths... and Nirvana".

Suddenly, amongst the maelstrom of punk's legion of anti-heroes emerged Ian Dury, part Fagin, part music hall master of ceremonies, part Oliver Reed at his most young and menacing. Backed by a band of peerless musicians, his tongue-in-cheek lyrics sat well against a wonderfully understated bass and drum backing, with the odd parping saxophone thrown in for good measure. The tracks follow each other thick and fast, from the humour of "Wake Up And Make Love With Me", the barnstorming rock of "Sweet Gene Vincent", the touching sentiment of "My Old Man", the vaudeville of "Billericay Dickie" and "Clevor Trever" (sic) to the quasi-punk pastiche of "Blockheads". This album is a triumph.

Also included are the marvellous (and underrrated) single "What A Waste", the calypso-influenced and very funny "You're More ... Read More:
