If you're only going to buy one Ramones album then buy this one. This is possibly the best live album by any band ever. A whole gig on one cd with the lads doing what they do best - loud, fast rock 'n' roll as only they can play it. From the opener of Rockaway Beach to the last track, We're A Happy Family, they only slacken the pace slightly for Here Today, Gone Tomorrow. Even after thirty years the pure energy and andrenaline of a Ramones gig still leaves you astonished.

What a surprise to be the first to review this ! When I spotted it at Amazon I was seduced by the bonus tracks. This really would have made it a best of-live, hadn't it been for the fact that there's nothing from my favourite album The Raven. The voice of Cornwell is on here and at its very best. There is as always the excellent rhytm section (Burnel-Black)and the Doors-alike organ of Dave Greenfield. Listen to this and you will realize that the Stranglers are really New Wave and not Punk. Highlight : Toiler on the Sea.

Recieved opinion has it that this album was patchy and disappointing and that the band promised more, and while i won't kid you it's a masterpiece it certainly has it's share of punk classics, particularly the title track, I'm An Upstart and Never Again. When the punk retrospectives are rolling this band is usually a footnote at best but for me they were the real deal; real anger suffused with a pop sensibility. At their best they rank with the greats of that era and should not be dismissed as sub-Sham headbangers or whatever nonsense the art school meeja crowd will tell you to fit their self serving agenda today.

Good buy for enthusiast/collector as it contains the spedding demos and mike thorne demos in uncut glory (for a change). A Thorne demo appears at the end of each CD (not mentioned on sleeve). Proof the band could play, hairs on back of my neck stand when I listen to the power and (this will upset the Sid Vicious type angry sex pistols fan) funky-ness of the early Pistols. The rejected Thomas "Anarchy" is a joy - better guitar solo's in my opinion. Shame Steve Jones' "Audition" comment is tagged on to the wrong "Pretty Vacant".

Buzzcocks first hit turntables with the manic totally brilliant punk ep 'Spiral Scratch'. Almost immediately Howard Devoto, lyricist, vocalist and all round intellectual dropped the group and his fake cockney accent to sit his exams before forming the excellent Magazine.
Thus began Buzzcock's second phase chronicled admirably on this collection. Guitarist Pete Shelley took over vocal duties on the Shelley-Devoto composition 'Orgasm Addict' - a great masturbation record with a wonderful line about 'international women with no body hair'. After this Shelley took over the main songwriting burden (with some support from Steve Diggle). The songs remain literate and intelligent, but love songs become the order of the day. Buzzsaw guitar, hyperactive ... Read More:

With over thirty minutes of extras, this CD provides over an hour's strangulation. Their first album after switching labels, "Feline" witnesses a further move to a more European feel.

First the not-so-good news: "It's A Small World" and "Ships That Pass in The Night", despite interesting moments have contorted arrangements; "Paradise" has a wonderfully percussive opening, but JJ's falsetto voice grates and his philosophical offering are mere platitudes; "Blue Sister" is nothing special; neither is "Never Say Goodbye"; and the least said about "Let's Tango In Paris", the better - at least it is very short.

But "Midnight Summer Dream" is a fine opener, very French, very Jean Michel Jarre with its echoing synths, and Hugh's softly ... Read More:

I'm only just getting into punk music i have albums by the ramones 7 the clash(well i borrowed them). I have been into music for 3 years now, and i have mainly been into the heavy metal scene. My dad really likes this band and i borrowed this album of him, and i must say this is a realy good live album. The atmosphere is brilliant, and the band clearly love what they do. The bonus interview is very interesting mainly for the fans. The songs are performed really well, i love the drummer on this album. I havnt heard them in studio as this is the only album i have by stiff little Finger i must start collecting them. This is a brilliant start to this band. The songs are memorable, the production for a live album is really good. So yes this is a brilliant album to buy ... Read More:

This album was an unashamed attempt for the band to finally score a hit by putting the name of legendary producer Phil Spector on the back of the album sleeve and since this album's release many people have criticised it for many different reasons, many of them totally unfair. Most people's main citicism is that Spector's distinctive production style does not suit the band at all and that many of the Ramones own distinctiv trademarks are missing. This could not be further from the truth, Spector's 'big' sounding production suits the bands 'BBIIGG' sound perfectly and all of the bands superb trademarks are intact, chainsaw guitar and all. The only gripe I have with this album is the horrendous disco version of 'Baby I Love You' but as only one Ramone appears on this track ... Read More:

Ok so the negative stuff first. This album has dated badly. Songs like the Cosh which name checks the poll tax and Beirut Moon which was an appeal for more action to help release John Mcarthy who was held hostage in Beirut now sound so out of date.

That said there are several positives from this album. The production is quite good and infact in many ways it's a better more coherant album than "Now then".

Several of the tracks are very good indeed by SLF standards. "No Surrender" (not as antagonistic as it sounds) and "It's a long way to paradise" still pack a punch.

This album saw the debut of Bruce Foxton in the group and there are plenty of signs of his bass work on many of the songs.

At the time it was a strong return ... Read More:

The fourth album from the punk legends and the first album with the edition of new drummer Marky. Although this is their fourth studio release and it is seen to not be as good as the other three studio releases ("Ramones", "Leave Home" and "Rocket To Russia"). This is wrong and I can tell you that it is just as good as the others. Having well reknown Ramones songs as "I Just Want To Have Something To Do", "I'm Against It" and "I Wanna Be Sedated" is not only the reason to buy this CD, it is full of equally as good songs. And with the remastered edition having some great bonus tracks like the Ed Stasium version of "Rock 'N' Roll High School" and a great live set of "Blitzkrieg Bop/Teenage Lobotomy/California Sun/Pinhead/She's The One", this is by far an essential purchase. Although ... Read More:
