Commercial jazz has had its fair share of knocks since it became fashionable to dislike the (sometimes) bland and souless playing of the likes of Kenny G et al.However, amongst the largely mindless pop music of the eighties shone this fine album.
Commercial-yes, but the playing and production are of such high quality that if you cannot recognise the splendour of these summer jazz/samba beats then you do not understand music. The soulful bonus of the fantastic Bill Withers is just about the icing on the cake.
Relax, kick back on a summer's day with a glass of cool wine and let the vibe wash over you-that's a rare kind of musical peace that you need to experience.

I have searched for many good symphonic, and gothic metal bands, but have never found one better than Within Temptation.

This being their first and most original album. 'Tis a shame, as some have stated, that WT decided to can the death growls, but they are extremely common among goth metal music. In fact, they don't even need to use them. And the last thing WT is that they are commercialised.

This album has some very unique songs, each with a very different mood and emotion to it. Say, Pearls of Light is a blissful song. And Deep Within on the other hand is aggressive and angry but also calm in it's pulse. I would definitely recommend this!

Every little bit hurts was not typical of T M at the time. The song was by an outside writer Ed Cobb who was one of the 4 Preps and it was covered by Cilla Black as well as a few groups like the Spencer Davis one.A classical sounding song with an aching melody which suited Cilla Black but not really groups like the Small Faces
By the time a new single was issued it could have been anybody. When I'm gone was to my mind rather a poor My guy soundalike.
Later came a single called You made me so very happy-which was good enough to have been a Goffin-King one but its cover by Blood Sweat & Tears is what made the song famous
Her sister Patrice was on the Capitol label and cut a single called Love & Desire-which was nearer the mark.Later ... Read More:

Life is full of surprises, especially when rare gems such as "Blue" are discovered in those vast vaults at Motown. If it wasn't for Shelly Berger - one of Diana's managers at the company - the album may not have seen the light of day.

From a historical point of view, "Blue" is fascinating; like the "Lady Sings the Blues" soundtrack, many of the musicians played for the real Lady Day herself, Billie Holiday. The exquisite arrangements are courtesy of Gil Askey, who also produced the album.

Diana's nuanced vocal delivery is stunning. It was as if she had been transported back in time to a bygone era of those decadent supper parties of the 40's. Diana's sense of timing - and sense of `knowing' - places her comfortably among the likes of Lady ... Read More:

For those of you who prefer Diana's music from the beginning of the seventies onwards this is one of the best compilations around. Although Motown have now put out Diana Ross and The Supremes 40 Greatest, it confuses the buyer as we tend to think it's just that, Diana with The Supreme's. The truth is the latter half of it is Diana at her best in the early 70's. This compilation feature's hits from the 70's leading into the 80's and show's a number of sides to Diana's music. The ballads and blues are covered by the sublime "Endless Love" and "Goodmorning Heartache", "Touch Me In The Morning", and "Theme From Mahogany". But what comes out great in this album for me is the "funky" side to Diana. The brilliant "My Old Piano", hear the piano and guitar playing off each ... Read More:

The selling point for this comp are the breaks contained therein which have been ransacked by various Hip Hop artists. But ignore that and listen to these for what they are, essential jazz, funk and soul from 70's Black America just as juicy now as when they came off the press and at a ludicrously cheap price.

I was glad to see they'd added the original "Someone Like You" and also "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" because, to me, those songs ARE Bridget Jones. The thing I wish they'd put on here (even though it doesn't feature in the film) is "Just The Way You Are" by Billy Joel, to fit in with Darcy loving Bridget "Just as she is". That said, the songs on this CD are fantastic and generally fit in with the theme of the film, so fans of the film, or fans of MUSIC should pretty much love it.
