For anyone like myself who was a young record buyer in the 1950's, this CD is a great trip down Memory Lane, and the music stands up very well after all these years. Antoine "Fats" Domino (b. 1928, New Orleans) emerged in the mid 1950s from the strictly African-American R & B scene ("The Fat Man" was recorded as early as 1949) to "cross over" onto the mainstream Pop charts. He had a great run of singles successes on both sides of the Atlantic, with "Blueberry Hill", "Ain't That A Shame", "Whole Lotta Lovin'" and others, all covered on this CD. I have always loved this album ever since I first purchased it in the late 70's( it was released in 1973.)The extra tracks on this new package just add to the brilliance of the album. Although Marvin's voice is stronger than Ms. Ross's, it still works and sounds great. The outstanding tracks are - Stop,Look,Listen, You are Everything, My Mistake was to Love You and Love Twins.Although all the tracks are great a great album to do the housework to.

I have got the 'Greatest Hits' and 'I am' from EW&F and took a punt on this CD as the price was so good. What a pleasant surprise - I have listened to it at least once a week for the last 3 months - it's superb (and I have lots of music!) Absolutely classic EW&F funky sounds with super brassy horns and groovy synths - how did I miss this album all those years ago - shame on me!

Very catchy songs, some romantic others more soulful. Of all the women he sang with (Diana Ross, Kim Weston etc), Marvin seemed most at ease with Tammi. (although they didn't always record their parts live in the studio together & some songs don't actually feature Tammi's voice at all!) This CD contains all their hits plus some lesser known & diferrent versions of the hits. You may be surprised how many you recognise! Standout tracks for me include Ain't No Mountain High Enough, If This World Were Mine, You Ain't Living Until Your Lovin and The Onion SOng. Well worth buying if you like romantic songs well sung.

The Contours had a second lease of life in the 80s when they were seen in Dirty Dancing the Concert Tour doing an extended version of Do you love me-their biggest hit from 1962. Liverpool groups took notice including one called Faron's Flamingoes who covered the song on the same label which had the license to TM product-Oriole. And the story goes that Brian Poole in conversation with the same wrote down the words from his record,recorded the song and topped the charts with it! Hard to believe but it sounds like an urban myth to me.Why copy the words the sheet music was only a few pence. This was the guy whose group the Tremeloes had been favored by Decca over the Beatles and needed a hit as their singles up to then had flopped. ... Read More:

The Isleys period that most appeals to me is the mid-1970's,specifically the albums Harvest For The World and 3+3. Although I would ordinarily buy the individual albums I used to own this one and always found it sufficient to my needs as it contains classic tracks from both albums; That Lady, Summer Breeze, Harvest For The World and more.Perhaps after a few more listens I might be persuaded to shell out somewhere between £10 - £15 to buy the original albums on cd, but I have to say at under 2 quid,including postage, this is an absolute bargain and one I could not resist. If you're interested in the Isleys before or after this period then this cd isn't going to do it for you and there are several others available that showcase their careers more ... Read More:

I grew up with tunes like Behind the Groove and Portuguese Love so this album took me back to my childhood. There were also tunes on the album that I'd never heard of such as I'm a Sucker for Your Love, produced and written by the late, great Rick James and the ballad I'm Gonna Have My Cake (And Eat It Too), both of which I loved. If your really into your 80's disco funk then this album is for you. A fantastic singer, really good album.
