The Platinum Collection sounds as if its full of million sellers but in reality she had one top 10 single plus 4 others much lower down.
However what you noticed about Mari Wilson was she hadn't come up the same conveyor belt as most of her contemporaries in the new female singers because she was a dress wearer-so straight away she's a throwback to the 60s and the pre minified 60s as well.Same as Noosha Fox 10 years earlier
One of her backup singers was Julie Fordham who eventually passed her on the road to stardom
Songwise Mari Wilson was only average-she was better at covers and her version of Mel Torme's Comin' home baby is the only girl version.
A review on here says she was underrated but that's not quite right.Claire ... Read More:

Hotter than July, is never really acknowledged, in despite of the achievements that Wonder managed to do with it. The album was the best selling of his career to that point and Dr Martin Luther King Jr was granted a national holiday on 26th January 1986 after his plea in the song "Happy Birthday"

Wonder promotes diversity, peace (Master Jammin'-a tribute to Bob Marley's reggae style); anger ("I ain't gonna stand for it"); politics ("Cash in your hand"), love ("All i do" and "Rocket Love") and influence ("Happy Birthday"- the song now even appears in real birthday cards, despite being written as a tribute to the civic rights work by Dr Martin Luther King Jr.)

if you are starting to get into diana ross and the supremes then this is a cd for you. all the hits are on this album, (not all ) you will find that most of the tracks have been changed in some way, you need to listen to other hit cds to find this out. the only bad think i will say is the very last track, you keep me hanging on,this is not a very good dance version of the song. i have 7 version's of this song and they seem to have put the worst one on this cd, why dont they think first. but apart from that it is well worth the money and you will enjoy a few special moments on the cd, with the girls giving as allways there best.

It's not easy being a James Brown fan. Currently, many of his original studio albums are so rare on CD that they are almost impossible to find, and instead of making them widely available, record companies force fans to buy armfuls of compilations by including small helpings of rare material on each one. However, the glut of compilations on the market at least make it easy for new fans to make their first purchase, and despite the disorganised back catalogue, further purchases are essential. Why? Because James Brown is the most influential artist of the 20th century, BAR NONE. Here's a quick history lesson: He invented funk, which evolved into disco, hip-hop, modern R&B, techno, house, trance, and every other form of contemporary dance music. They all trace ... Read More:

This greatest hits collection by Stevie Wonder, was one i purchased in my local Woolworths in Kirkcaldy, a couple of years ago.

However, do be wary if you decide to buy this. Many songs by Stevie Wonder may be acknowledged: "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm yours"; "You're the sunshine of my life", "He's misstra know-it-all", but as far as i'm concerned, this collection is devoid of something. This includes: virtually no trace of his work on "Fulfillingless' First Finale, all of which are sadly absent; a lot of songs including the likes of: "I ain't gonna stand for it", "He hasn't done nothin'", "Superwoman", "All in life is fair" and "Love's in need in love today" are not here, but should be; probably the worst trasverty of them all are "Isn't she lovely" ... I agree with what reviewers have said so far. This is not as good as Talking Book, Innervisions, Fulfillingness or Songs In The Key. It is quite a good introduction to the classic Stevie sound though and the listener can see how Stevie developed that trademark sound over the next 4 or 5 albums. I would say it is better than Where I'm Coming From and the 60s Motown period is nicely summerised on several compilations albums, so this is the first truly great Stevie solo album. My faves are 'Superwoman', 'Happier Than The Morning Sun', 'Keep On Running' and even 'Evil', though it is very cheesy, I like a bit of that sometimes!. The only negative point about some Stevie albums is the tendency to make a 3:30 pop single into an 8 minute jam which sometimes works and sometimes ... Read More:

The first CD covers the music of the Supremes, with and without Diana, while the second CD covers Diana's solo career up to the time that she left Motown in 1981.

Of the Supremes tracks, eighteen were recorded with Diana. I'm pleased to see My world is empty without you (one of their finest songs) included despite the fact that it completely missed the UK charts. Come see about me, Back in my arms again and I hear a symphony are also here despite only being minor UK hits - however, all three were American number one hits. More predictably, Where did our love go, Baby love (the only UK number one hit for the Supremes), Stop in the name of love, You can't hurry love, You keep me hanging on, The happening, Reflections and I'm gonna make you love me (with the Temptations), ... Often, when listening to Marvin, I get a lump in my throat. This is knowing how he spent his last few years, and how his life was eventually ended. However, it's also the fragility of his voice. By this I don't mean his voice wasn't strong or good. However some songs, including many on this album, display a vulnerability. Dusty was the same - some of her ballads displayed the same fragility and vulnerability. Sadly, Johnny Cash's last recordings were the same, but for different reasons. All were and are (on record, anyway) great artists, and deserve all their accolades.
