Diana Ross had not had a big UK hit since 'Love Hangover' in 1976 when this album was recorded. I love it, because it's the album that introduced me to the music of Diana Ross and in time many other Motown legends.
This is not a typical Diana Ross album as there are no traditional ballads. Instead we get a succession of cool grooves from Chic's Edwards and Rogers with Diana's sumptious vocals over the top. Apart from the obvious charms of 'Upside Down' and 'I'm Coming Out' the outstanding tracks are 'Now That You're Gone' and 'Tenderness' (a minor hit in 1981).
This album is equally loved and loathed by Ross fans but whatever your opinion it shows Diana as a serious album artist rather than a singer of hit singles. The deluxe version ... Read More:

A bit of a downer compared to 'Can't Slow Down' but still worthwhile if you are a Richie fan.

83.Someday At Christmas by: Stevie Wonder

Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Music : Someday At Christmas
This is by far the best Christman album I've ever heard! It was recorded in 1967 when he was only 17 years old. He really creates a lovely atmosphere with this album, and all songs are wonderfully done (especially "Ave Maria" and "The Christmas Song"). There is a reason why this album has survived four decades...If you've got lots of Christmas music at home but you haven't got this one, then you've still got nothing! Get it NOW before Christmas arrives!!

I bought this album because it was cheap, and I am interested in jazz. Not that I am a jazz fanatic. I am usually an electronic buff, but want to explore other genres as well to not get the tunnel vision one tends to get with just listening to one genre. So I dare sometimes dive deep into jazz. Not that I have gotten the chance much, so this CD would be a first attempt.

Well, to be frank, I was mildly disappointed. This is not jazz, I know that much. This is soul of various origins. Granted some tracks are really old, and some are very good. But if soul was what I wanted, which is not the case, I would have gone to the local gas station and bought a 10 cd package of the stuff.

Many of these tracks are more famous for their small ... Read More:

One of only two albums I have ever purchased by Stevie Wonder - the other being his best-selling 'Hotter Than July' from 1981.

When I first heard the dreamy 'Overjoyed' hit from 1986 - I was sold and simply had to have the album it was taken from. I also purchased the 12" extended single version and played it to death! This beautiful song will forever remind me of the Spring of 1986. Though often liking Stevie's single material, I was never tempted to purchase an album of his until this release. This also includes the top five smash from the previous year: 'Part-Time Lover'. Some of Stevie's songs do tend to go on a bit, but there are some great numbers here like the lovely 'epic': 'Whereabouts' which has 'echoes' of 'Overjoyed', ... Read More:

Soul music had several regional centres in the `60's, and there was a distinctive sound from each, notably Detroit, and Memphis, but also in Muscle Shoals and Chicago. Equally, several labels became synonymous with a Soul sound, Motown, Stax and Atlantic, 3 of the best known.

In late 60's Philadelphia, Thom Bell was producing and arranging for the Delfonics, adding elements not normally associated with Soul vocal groups, and in doing so, providing a blueprint for what became known as Sweet Soul. Bell carried this sound with him to The Stylistics, where his writing and arranging with Linda Creed, together with the Groups vocals, created a major stir with their first album on the Atco label in 1970. Both groups feature strongly here, including all their early hits. ... Read More:

One of the original masters of Funk, her talent is painfully underated. Rather than get worked up about quasi-singers like Britney, Kylie and the rest...how about listening to a master craftswoman at the top of her ability. Achingly soulful, shockingly funky, wonderfully elegant and my god, the lungs! She can belt right up there with Aretha, aint no joke!

Everywhere is a phenomenal song, Aint Nobody is a modern club legend and well...Im Every Woman, it truly is, all in her!

*bow to chaka...and her hair*
