This is a great CD. I had always thought that Hodie, despite great moments of inspiration (such as the marvellously inspiriting conclusion)was a rather inferior score to earlier choral scores like Sancta Civitas and Dona Nobis Pacem, but Hilary Davan Wetton's new Naxos (super-budget) version has forced me to revise my earlier view. I still believe that the beautiful Sancta Civitas is Vaughan Williams's choral masterpiece ( although Dona Nobis Pacem and the late, neglected Epithalamion are, respectively, works of great power and beauty) but Hodie comes across as a much greater score in this recording. If you enjoy Reggie then you would feel that this album would offer you the excellence in Christmas music. It started with dreary renditions of several much loved carols. The casio keyboard music effect did nothing to enhance it. Further along the album at Track 16 there starts to be a big improvement and I would say to buy it for this part alone!

There are a lot worse albums around than this easy-going collection of country & western versions of favourite Christmas songs. Opening with Trisha Yearwood's silky-smooth version of "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting...)" it does lull anyone for whom C&W is not their favourite cup of meat into a false sense of security. Even Loretta Lynn does second cut, "White Christmas", no harm, and Lee Greenwood's "Let It Snow..." is as straight as a bean pole. Reba McEntire's twangy soprano on track four is where the serious stuff starts, and it doesn't look back from there on, with plenty of steel guitars and thick Nashville accents following. This may be old (1962) but is a must for Christmas. Brings back loads of happy memories of when Christmas was simple. Well worth spending a few pounds on you will probably play it over and over again.

I've been an Osmond fan since 1970. What a wonderful Christmas CD this is. This UK release (2001) has 18 of the 20 songs from their 1976 Chirstmas vinyl album. It's missing 2 of the songs ( "Christmas Waltz" and "A Very Merry Christmas") but if you have the USA CD (1991-release 12 songs) then you have the "Christmas Waltz" song. This UK CD also has the only 3 songs that the Osmonds wrote on their vinyl album. Which are "Sleigh Ride" an upbeat song and my favorite on this CD, "It Never Snows In L.A." sung by Jimmy and "Old Fashioned Christmas" sung by Donny. I have the vinyl album and it's great having it on CD now. No more pops or crackling noises. The harmonies of the brothers are awesome. And Marie's voice sounds beautiful as always. You'll ...
