I have a soft spot for Melissa's music and admittedly, this is in some ways like most other Christmas albums as there are token songs that you expect from any artist on an album like this. However, Melissa clearly took time to be original (as always) and her spirit and passion for inspiring healing, freedom, peace, and redemption just shines through brilliantly particularly with tracks like "Light a Light," and "Glorious." "It's Christmas Time" makes me want to worship and scream and jump around all at once, which is rare on a Christmas album. Her song "O Night Devine," is essentially a rock electric guitar rendition of "Oh Holy Night," and it really is divine in the fact that it calls to the spirit that is often lost in over-done Christmas ... I'm not what might you call a Tull fan (though I do have their `Broadsword and the Beast', acquired kind of by accident but that's another story). What I am interested in are Christmas albums: while compilation albums are OK (if I can find one containing enough songs not already duplicated in my collection), the ultimate prize for me is a Christmas-themed album recorded as a single body of work, which usually means it is recorded by the same artist (a notable exception being the Phil Spector album), and original material trumps covers of Christmas classics (I can live without yet another version of `Baby it's Cold Outside'). In this respect, `The Jethro Tull Christmas Album' is one of the finest around.

This is a collection of songs sung by Paul Carrack- the most famous singer that no-one appears to have heard of! Paul was the lead singer of Squeeze and Mike and the Mechanics amongst others and wrote the wonderful "How Long" when he was in the band 'Ace.'

If you like Christmassy songs then this CD is for you. Paul Carrack has a wonderful soulful voice and this album is made with a large "big band" sound.

If you haven't already bought it for this Christmas, then buy it for next.

This is now the 11th Christmas that this music has been part of the tradition of my holiday season, and although I've acquired numerous other holiday music collections over the years, this far surpasses any other collection that I own. It is difficult to do justice to this music by describing it in mere words. The collection ranges from the 14th to the 16th Century, and is unlike any other collection of Christmas music available. It evokes the true spirit of the Christmas season, is enlightening, inspirational, and transports the listener far from the trite elements of the 'modern' holiday season. No other choral group can compare to the Harry Christophers The Sixteen (named such as the group consists of four treble/mean, four ... Read More:

Brilliant choice of carols and great quality singing, however the recordings are very old (from the 1950s and 1960s) and in places this affects the quality. One of the carols (o little town)distorts slightly when it gets very loud and for Once in Royal the first verse is incredibly quiet.
As a soprano, I was also disappointed that Once in Royal didn't include the descant in the last verse.
I can't find a better selection of carols on one CD so get this if you don't mind the odd problem with sound quality.

I love Christmas music, from Home Alone to The Snowman and this CD with songs from and inspired by Ally McBeal's Christmas episodes is definitely a favourite! It contains brilliant vocals from all performers (from Ally to Larry to guests such as Macy Gray) and has some gorgeous arrangements. Whenever 'Run, Run, Rudolph' starts up I have to jump up and dance! It's addictive. I love Jane Krakowski's voice and she shines on her tracks. There's a good mixture of fast and slow, and can create a good atmosphere either for a cosy Christmas night or a lively party.
The stand-out track for me though is Robert Downey Jr's version of Joni Mitchell's 'River'. It's just perfect. Robert's gruff vocals make it so moving and soulful.....I have a hard time ... Read More:

As much as I love Christmas music, there are very few CD's that grab me from the moment I first start listening to them. But that was the case with this CD. From the very first note of "I'll Be Home for Christmas," I was drawn into a world of snow and twinkling lights and presents. Kristin's voice made me want to snuggle up by a fire, and its still 80's degrees here in Southern California.

The CD ranges in style from jazz on "I'll Be Home for Christmas" (with a lovely sax solo), to big band on "Sleigh Ride/Marshmallow World" and "Christmas Island" and even a hint of country on "Silver Bells."

Speaking of country, she goes full blown country on "Come On, Ring Those Bells." I have another version of this song I consider ... Read More:
