I bought this film purely because of the transgender theme (the Britney impersonator Robert Stephens) and watched it with my girlfriend (who is a M2F transsexual). The film is not the greatest film ever made, but it is very competently put together and we found it funny and entertaining. The performances from all the cast are good and there is some sharp humour and some very clever moments. We loved it, for instance, when Robert as "Britney" stood in front of "Britney's Plantation" and oozed about the fact that her heroine had bought the place, when, in fact, she was standing in front of Graceland, Elvis Parsley's home.

If you buy this and watch it as light entertainment you will not be disappointed. As such it deserves 4 stars.

If you are looking for a movie to watch on Christmas day with your family, in addition to the well known Christmas classics of your collection, I would recommend this unknown movie starring Jimmy Durante. This is a heart warming story of a true Christmas spirit, much similar to Scrooge, involving the family of Mr. Amendola (Jimmy Durante), his wife Mrs. Amendola (Quinie Smith), and their only daughter Rosalinda (Terry Moore.) Jimmy Durante offers a brilliant performance as a faded vaudeville star who rents an apartment just before Christmas holidays during Great depression. With serious financial problem on one hand, on the other, they face the challenges of their penny pinching land lord, Mr. Dingle (Frank Orth) who is interested in collecting ... Read More:

Yes, it is a great life affirming movie with its heart firmly in the right place...BUT...personally I would have prefered not such a happy ending, or a very different kind of happy ending - I just feel that the miraculous turnaround of George's fortunes at the end, while rightly suggesting that all good deeds may be remembered, and returned in kind, missed a real chance to state that happiness didn't have to depend on material wealth at all - After all, when he was given his old life back, George's euphoric happiness was based soley upon his family and friends, regardless of his dire financial state! This was a real chance to bang the point home about the real dangers of capitalism, but it was totally spurned. Indeed, this ending almost suggested, ... Read More:

If you like comedy, you'll laugh. And if "Karate Kid" is anywhere back there in your memories, you'll more likely be rolling on the floor (your kids will laugh at you --and that's funny). You will be touched. The music keeps up with the comedy, and the characters have a genuine depth I've seen in "The Adventures of Wallace and Grommit", but with a faster, more cheery mood overall. Children may need to be told (by you) that Robbie is Rudolph's son, as the arch villian refuses to allow anybody in the story to say his name --narrators included-- but the story is unbeatable. If you do not buy this DVD, you are wasting your money on something else.
