What I do know for sure, however, is that having spent a couple of painfully wasted hours listening to Santogold's execrable debut album I was very ready for some honest musical sustenance. I found it here In Ryan Bingham's most recent album 'Mescalito'. Comparisons abound but try to put them to one side. Let's listen to Mr Bingham on his own evident merits. I stumbled across Carrie Underwood when I watched American Idol 2007 singing So Small. Since then I have been a listener. Her voice is amazing, makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up! The top song on Carnival Ride has to be Just a Dream. She sings the song with spot on emotion. There aren't many artists who can sing with such depth. Buy this album and her debut (Some Hearts), you will not be disappointed! Just a shame not touring the UK!

I liked this album a lot even though many of the tracks are a bit too fast and loud compared to music I usually listen to.But I've been listening to it for a couple of months now so it's definitely got quality.

The Hollies are often overlooked in favour of The Beatles and The Kinks - true they didn't write all their own material and they followed trends rather than set them - but the bands melodic brand of harmony driven, guitar power-pop definately deserves reinvestigation. Lead by Allan Clarke and Graham Nash, The Hollies scored hit after hit through the mid to late 60's and even enjoyed belated chart action with the gorgeous 'Air That I Breath' in 1973. That their influence can be heard decades later with the likes of Teenage Fanclub, Dodgy and latterly The Feeling, is testiment to the quality of the singles compiled on this collection. Steve Earle music is best described as country-rock. The skull and cross bones that form the cover of Copperhead Road album warn of what is to come, a heavy mix of potent music shot through with the reflections of an wild young man who is older than his years. Inserts show a relaxed Earle, fag in mouth, black shades and dressed in denim. A strong start with 'Copperhead Road' on which you can apparently 'smell the whisky burnin'; 'The Devil's Right Hand' refers to a pistol and though the song has a strange lyrical resonace it isn't until 'Johnny Come Lately' (on which the Pogues play) when the album begins to rock.. This is an absolutely essential purchase for anyone that calls themselves a fan of Bob Dylan. Be really smart though, and wait till you can get it for under a tenner, like I did. Not that it's not worth full price - it is; but you can feel even more smug when you've got it for a bargain price. Enough of my smugness! What about the product? This collection of rare Dylan recordings (outtakes, live recordings and such) have been packaged on 3 CDs, and ordered more or less chronologically. There are some good songs on this disc, but compared to their debut album it has no kick, I think O.C.M.S maybe a one trick pony.

I read a couple of reviews about this disc, and decided to give it a go. It duly arrived. I played it. Twice. The first time, I nodded off halfway through it. The second time, I switched it off about three quarters of the way through. It really never gets going. I wanted desperately to like it, but I can't. Wander through any large car boot sale and you'll come across a stand with a radio blasting out Irish folk music. And this is what this disc sounds like. Daniel O'Donnell with a better guitar backing. A great pity, it should have been so good.
